Battle near Genetia

In the year 229 BBY, a conflict unfolded close to Genetia, where Vernestra Rwoh, a Jedi Knight of the Mirialan species, participated. This engagement was part of the Jedi Order's offensive against the Nihil pirates following the formation of the Stormwall, a barrier that disrupted hyperspace travel into the Occlusion Zone, a space region under Nihil control. This battle near Genetia, an Expansion Region planet, led Rwoh to believe that the Jedi Order was failing in their fight against the Nihil and that the Galactic Republic would need to take the lead until the Jedi Order could find its way again. Following the battle, and after leaving Jedi Knight Lyssa Votz on Genetia, Rwoh, already traumatized by the destruction of the space station Starlight Beacon, concluded that she had reached her limit and would now be guided by the will of the Force. Later in that year, the Mirialan reflected mentally on the battle, describing it as "particularly awful" and considering its impact on her. In the following year, Rwoh made her return to the Jedi Order.

Behind the scenes

The short story titled "The Force Provides," penned by Justina Ireland and included in the 2023 young-adult anthology The High Republic: Tales of Light and Life, which is itself a component of the larger Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project, was the first mention of the battle near Genetia. An article published on StarWars.com on May 29, 2024, which documented Vernestra Rwoh's story, specified that the battle occurred on Genetia. This article follows the placement of the battle's location from "The Force Provides."
