In the year 230 BBY, Marchion Ro, the leader of the Nihil marauders, unleashed devastating weaponry called stormseeds. These weapons possessed the capability to obliterate any starships navigating hyperspace within their operational range. By activating these stormseeds in the Outer Rim Territories, the Nihil effectively isolated ten entire sectors of the Outer Rim from the Galactic Republic, thereby establishing their control over the area, which they subsequently named the Occlusion Zone. The Republic's realization of this came swiftly when the Republic Defense Coalition Outreach Fleet, en route to the Outer Rim to aid worlds there, met its demise in hyperspace due to the stormseeds' activation.
The 2022 comic book series Star Wars: The High Republic: Eye of the Storm, specifically in its second issue, featured the unleashing of the stormseeds. Charles Soule penned this comic as part of the broader Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia initiative.
