The Ghost was a modified VCX-100 light freighter owned by the Twi'lek Hera Syndulla that was used by the Spectres rebel cell during the Age of the Empire. As part of the rebellion, the Ghost saw actions on numerous missions and skirmishes against the forces of the Galactic Empire. The Ghost also had an auxiliary vessel called the Phantom that could double as both a shuttle and a starfighter. Following the Phantoms destruction at Reklam Station, the Spectres obtained a replacement shuttle in the form of the Sheathipede-class transport shuttle Phantom II.
The Ghost was a modified VCX-100 light freighter originally made by the Corellian Engineering Corporation. It was named by Hera for her ability to evade Imperial sensors. Although an old vessel with a few dogfight battle scars from the Empire, it still performed reliably. The ship had a nose turret gunner station underneath the cockpit section, with a dedicated gunner seat, and a 360-degree dorsal laser cannon turret midships. There were four main cargo holds. The vessel had a crew section at the front half, with the two forward-facing cargo holds making up the forward corners of the ship.
The Ghost was equipped with both port and starboard docking rings, like a majority of Corellian light freighter designs. If there was no nose gunner available, the pilot could operate the nose turret from the cockpit. Additionally, the dorsal turret could be operated from the cockpit via an astromech droid socket, or with a set of controls at the pilot's seat. Behind the cockpit was the crew's quarters, consisting of four private rooms. By the engine arrays were the two rear-facing main cargo holds which made up the rear corners of the ship.
The Ghost had engines which were baffled, energy dampeners, and static jammers to make it hard to detect. These features and over eighty-seven illegal upgrades to the Ghosts stealth systems allowed the freighter to mimic solar fluctuations or cosmic radiation on many sensors. The Ghost had enough forward firepower to destroy an Arquitens-class command cruiser. During the ship's use as part of the early rebellion against the Empire, its captain Hera Syndulla escaped Imperial forces numerous times by activating its hyperdrive without charting a path with the ship's onboard navigation computer, relying on luck to avoid running into asteroids or supernovae. The astromech droid C1-10P "Chopper" frequently got into arguments with the Ghosts navicomputer when sending it commands, with the Ghost finding the droid very rude and pushy.
On the roof of the ship, in the back, rested a VCX-series auxiliary starfighter called the Phantom. This versatile craft performed double-duty doubled as both a starfighter and shuttle, and triple-duty as the Ghosts aft gun armament when docked tail-forward. Although the Phantom was destroyed during a mission to Reklam Station, the Spectres replaced it with the Phantom II, a Sheathipede-class transport shuttle commandeered during a mission to Agamar.
At least six years before harboring the Spectres and eight years after the proclamation of the New Order, the Ghost would end up in the possession of Hera Syndulla, an idealistic daughter to Twi'lek resistance leader Cham Syndulla, leader of both the Twi'lek Resistance and Free Ryloth Movement. Hera and her astromech droid C1-10P "Chopper" would travel across the galaxy aboard the Ghost to rendezvous with political activists and dissenters against the Empire in hopes of eventually forming a resistance movement in the far future. Whenever Syndulla needed to exit the ship, Chopper typically stayed aboard, as was the case when Syndulla accidentally met Great Jedi Purge survivor Caleb Dume—known as Kanan Jarrus. During the events of the Gorse Conflict, the two would ultimately save the planet and its moon Cynda.
Sometime following the events of the conflict, the Ghost would become home to ex-Imperial Academy student Sabine Wren and former Lasan High Honor Guard Captain Garazeb Orrelios, who was recruited to the team by Jarrus. Together, the group, becoming known as the Spectres, would strike out on a campaign of anti-Imperial activities on the distant agricultural world of Lothal. A starship dealer was once interviewed for a lead on the Ghost.
Around this time, the crew embarked on a number of missions, usually on Lothal. During one such heist, Jarrus and Syndulla decided to raid an Imperial supply convoy. However, they were chased by several TIE/ln space superiority starfighters, and in the midst of the battle the shields of the Ghost were disabled. While Chopper was ordered to repair them, the crew noticed that communications were down, which Chopper was again asked to fix. However, Jarrus countermanded the order and told the droid to focus on the shields instead. During the struggle, Jarrus managed to destroy one of the TIE fighters that was chasing them, with the dorsal turret, and Syndulla, who was piloting the Ghost, was able to maneuver behind another and destroy it using the forward cannons. Chopper then took control of the Phantoms cannons himself and used them to destroy the last one.
During another such mission, the Ghost was captured and needed to escape from the Imperials on Lothal. Wren infiltrated an airbase with the call-sign Spectre Five. She was able to deploy a paint bomb, allowing the Ghost to slip away undetected. The Force-sensitive Lothal orphan Ezra Bridger later joined the crew, after which, he earned his place amongst the crew when he helped them rescue several Wookiees from the spice mines of Kessel. The Ghost then traveled to the planet Garel where the Spectres stole a shipment of T-7 ion disruptor rifles from the Empire to sell to the crime lord and black marketeer Cikatro Vizago. The Ghost then rendezvoused with the Tantive IV to return R2-D2 and C-3PO to their owner.
While living aboard the Ghost, Ezra shared a room with Zeb and the two frequently quarreled with each other. Following a fight, Hera sent Ezra and Zeb to buy some Meiloorun fruit in the Lothalian town of Kothal. After running into Imperial entanglements, the two stole a TIE starfighter and embarked on a little adventure. After supposedly destroying the fighter, Ezra and Zeb returned to the Ghost as friends.
Later, Kanan gave Ezra his first Jedi lesson while the Ghost was hovering over the skies of Lothal. Since Ezra was not concentrating, he almost plummeted to his death. Following that lesson, the Ghost traveled to the planet Stygeon Prime where the Jedi Master Luminara Unduli was supposedly imprisoned in a fortified prison called the Spire. While Chopper waited aboard the Ghost, Kanan and the other rebels flew down to the planet in the Phantom. However, this turned out to be a trap set by the Grand Inquisitor and the rebels narrowly escaped with their lives.
Following their adventure on Stygeon Prime, Hera and Kanan flew the Ghost on a raid against a convoy of Gozanti-class cruisers transporting a large kyber crystal. While Hera flew the Ghost and attacked the cruiser carrying the crystal, Kanan flew the Phantom and distracted the TIE fighter escorts. Hera and Kanan were aided by Ezra, who had infiltrated the Academy for Young Imperials at Lothal's Capital City. Later, the Ghost rendezvoused with the rest of the team outside Capital City where they were joined by a Force-sensitive cadet named Jai Kell. Hera arranged for Kell and his mother to be moved to into hiding.
Later, the Ghost took part in a rescue mission on the asteroid PM-1203 after Hera and Sabine were stranded there and surrounded by fyrnocks. The Phantom had sustained a fuel leak during a skirmish with TIE fighters. After evacuating Hera, Sabine, and the Phantom, the rebels fled into space. On Empire Day, the Ghost was used by its rebel crew to flee Lothal's Capital City after they disrupted the Empire Day celebrations and rescued the fugitive Tseebo, a Rodian wearing a cybernetic implant containing vital information on Imperial operations in Lothal.
The Ghost was then pursued by TIE fighters led by the Inquisitor. After sustaining some damage, the ship managed to jump into hyperspace due to Tseebo transmitting the coordinates. However, the Inquisitor had succeed in planting a tracking device on the Phantom, which was still engaged to the Ghost. In order to protect Tseebo, Kanan and Ezra departed on the Phantom and lured the Inquisitor to PM-1203. Meanwhile, Hera rendezvoused the Ghost with a mysterious rebel leader named Fulcrum, who arranged for Tseebo to be moved into hiding.
While Ezra underwent his Jedi Trials at a hidden Jedi temple on Lothal, the other crew of the Ghost waited on Lothal. Following Ezra's Jedi trials, the crew of the Ghost participated on a job for the "galactic entrepreneur" Lando Calrissian, who with the reluctant help of Ezra, stole a puffer pig from the crime lord Azmorigan. After escaping Azmorigan, the Ghost had to navigate through the Imperial blockade around Lothal. During the journey, the puffer pig broke free and wreaked havoc on the ship. The Ghost was also pursued by several TIE fighters but Kanan managed to lose them. After landing near Calrissian's farm, the rebels defeated Azmorigan and his henchmen, who had come back for revenge.
Following the capture of Kanan Jarrus by the Empire, Hera was aboard the Ghost when she received instructions from Fulcrum not to endanger the rest of the rebel cell by rescuing Kanan. Against Hera's orders, Ezra along with Chopper, Sabine, and Zeb embarked on a mission to discover Kanan's whereabouts. While Chopper distracted Hera, the other three rebels escaped on the Phantom. Meeting Vizago, the rebels learnt that Kanan was imprisoned aboard Grand Moff Tarkin's Star Destroyer Sovereign, which was traveling to the Mustafar system. Since the Ghost was familiar to Imperial authorities, the rebels instead used a stolen Gozanti freighter to travel to Mustafar.
The rescue mission was successful and the Spectres succeeded in killing the Grand Inquisitor and destroying the Sovereign, forcing Tarkin to evacuate the ship. Later, the Ghost reappeared in the Mustafar system with two rebel network blockade runners. Manning the dorsal turret of the Ghost was Fulcrum, who was actually the former Padawan Ahsoka Tano. After picking up Kanan and his rebel comrades, Ahsoka revealed her identity to the rest of the Ghost crew and confirmed that they were indeed part of a larger Rebellion.
Following the events in the Mustafar system, Ezra, Sabine, and Zeb used the Ghost in a successful mission to rescue their ally Zare Leonis' sister Dhara Leonis from Area Null in Arkanis. Later, the crew of the Ghost joined the Phoenix Cell, which operated a fleet of starships. When the rebels agreed to rescue a defecting Imperial Minister named Maketh Tua, her crew left her with the Phoenix fleet since their ship was a familiar sight to the Imperial authorities on Lothal. Their mission to rescue Tua was a failure since Agent Kallus had arranged her assassination and framed the Spectres. After escaping Darth Vader, the crew of the Ghost resolved never to return to Lothal to avoid endangering its people.
When Darth Vader caught up with them and attacked the Phoenix fleet, the Ghost participated in the defense of the Phoenix fleet. Vader's TIE Advanced starfighter destroyed the rebel flagship Phoenix Home and several A-wing starfighters; forcing the rebels to retreat into hyperspace. During the fighting, Ahsoka was aboard the Ghost when she realized that Vader was her former mentor Anakin Skywalker. Vader was followed by two Star Destroyers which almost trapped the Ghost in their tractor beam projector. However, the freighter managed to jump into hyperspace in the nick of time.
In the wake of the near-destruction of the Phoenix Squadron, the early rebellion faced a shortage of bases and facilities. Ahsoka sent the crew of the Ghost to the desert world of Seelos to contact her old friend, the former Clone Captain Rex. While Kanan along with Ezra, Sabine, and Zeb traveled down to Seelos, Hera and Chopper stayed aboard the Ghost to repair the ship. The rebels managed to make contact with Rex and his companions Wolffe and Gregor. Kanan managed to win the trust of Rex and Gregor, but Wolffe distrusted the rebels and secretly alerted Agent Kallus and Admiral Kassius Konstantine.
Hera and Chopper were aboard the Ghost when Admiral Konstantine and Kallus' Star Destroyer Relentless exited hyperspace above Seelos. To avoid detection, Hera turned off all of the ship's systems. This enabled the Ghost to escape capture. The Relentless was compelled to withdraw from the Seelos system after Vader ordered the ship to rendezvous with a shuttle carrying an Inquisitor. This withdrawal enabled the rebels and the clones to defeat Agent Kallus' force of AT-AT walkers and escape offworld aboard the Ghost. Thus, the rebel network not only found new bases but won new allies.
During one of Ezra's Jedi training lessons aboard the Ghost, Sabine and Chopper played a prank on Ezra by locking Chopper's feet to the ship's metallic floor. Despite Ezra's best efforts, he was unable to use the Force to levitate the astromech droid. When the Phoenix Squadron departed on a mission to Rinn, Ezra and Chopper were ordered to stay behind and to clean the Ghost. However, the two rebels departed on an unauthorized mission aboard the Phantom after receiving a distress call from Vizago above Garel.
The Ghost later participated in a failed attempt by the Phoenix rebel fleet to break an Imperial blockade around Ibaar. The Phoenix rebels had wanted to deliver relief supplies to the Ibaarians, who were suffering after the Empire confiscated their rations and doubled their work quota. The Phoenix rebels sustained the loss of their commander and a transport ship. Later, the crew of the Ghost took part in a mission to contact Quarrie, a reclusive Mon Calamari engineer living on Shantipole, who had developed a new prototype heavy starfighter known as the Blade wing. Due to Shantipole's dangerous atmospheric conditions, the Ghost stayed in space while Hera, Zeb, and Sabine traveled down to Ibaar in the Phantom.
Later, Kanan, Ezra, and Chopper took the Ghost to rendezvous with a transport ship and collected supplies for a second attempt to break the Imperial blockade around Ibaar. Due to its smaller size and maneuverability, the Ghost was designated as the new transport ship that would attempt to break the blockade. Since the plight of the Ibaarians was dire, Kanan was unable to wait for Hera and departed to rejoin the fleet. As the Ghost prepared for its blockade run, Kanan and his crew received a transmission from Hera telling them to stay in their position. Shortly later, the Phantom emerged from hyperspace dragging the Blade Wing in two. Piloting the Blade Wing, Hera destroyed an Imperial Arquitens-class light cruiser. This cleared a path for the Ghost to deliver its relief supplies by airdrop to the Ibaarians. Following the mission to Shantipole, Hera was promoted to Phoenix Leader.
Prior to the Battle of Garel, Ezra was sleeping in his bunk when he received a Force vision of his parents Ephraim and Mira Bridger. He then convinced Hera and Kanan to make preparations to depart for Lothal to find his parents. Shortly later, Sabine Wren was monitoring the Ghosts systems when its computers picked up an Imperial fleet departing from Lothal for an unknown expedition. Shortly later, the Phoenix Squadron was attacked by Imperial forces, which included ground forces, Star Destroyers, and TIE fighters. After being rejoined by Zeb and Chopper, the Ghost departed into the skies above Garel.
Under the orders of Phoenix Leader Hera, the other rebel ships followed the Ghost. During the fighting, Ezra, Kanan, and Chopper departed aboard the Phantom to continue their quest to find Ezra's parents. After Commander Jun Sato's corvette Liberator was trapped by the tractor beam projector of a Star Destroyer, Hera used the Ghost to undertake a dangerous maneuver to knock out the Star Destroyer's tractor beam. Despite having its frontal laser cannons disabled by an Imperial blast, Hera still managed to ram the projector. Zeb, who was manning the rear turret, narrowly escaped being crushed against the projector. After freeing Sato's corvette, Hera and the other rebel ships fled into hyperspace.
Following the escape from Garel, Senator Bail Organa sent his adopted daughter Princess Leia Organa to deliver three Sphyrna-class Hammerhead corvette to the Phoenix rebels. Since the Alderaanians could not directly send the ships to the rebels in space, the Organas arranged for the corvettes to be delivered to Lothal, an Imperial world. As part of the plan, the rebels would "steal" the ships while Princess Leia was on a "mercy mission" in Lothal. The crew of the Ghost were sent to rendezvous with Leia and to "steal" the Hammerhead corvettes. However, they encountered an unexpected obstacle when the Imperial Supply Master Yogar Lyste attached gravity locks to the ships.
The Ghost managed to rendezvous with Kanan, Ezra, Chopper, and Leia in Lothal's wilderness. They also encountered Ryder Azadi, the former Governor of Lothal whom they rescued from being recaptured by an Imperial patrol. The Ghost was subsequently used during a successful operation to steal the Hammerhead corvettes from an Imperial depot near the town of Jalath. With Hera at the ship's helm, the Ghost harried the garrison's AT-AT walkers while the other rebels disabled the gravity locks and took the corvettes into space. After obtaining the corvettes, the Ghost departed Lothal and rejoined the rebel fleet in space.
After Ezra received a tip from the Weequay pirate Hondo Ohnaka, the crew of the Ghost traveled to Nixus Hub 218 to rescue two refugees who had been captured by the Galactic Empire. These refugees turned out to be Gron and Chava, two Lasat refugees who had survived the fall of Lasan. After rescuing the refugees and fleeing Nixus, the Ghost traveled to the legendary Lasat refuge of Lira San, which was located in Wild Space. Lira San was separated from the rest of the galaxy by a collapsed star cluster. During the expedition, Zeb used his bo-rifle to navigate safe passage for the Ghost through the star cluster. They then dropped the two refugees on Lira San, which they discovered was the original Lasat homeworld.
With the Ghost low on fuel and power, the crew of the Ghost took part in a heist at a Mining Guild Asteroid Belt Gas Refinery to obtain fuel for their ship and the fleet. On the way to the planetoid housing the refinery, the Ghost was surrounded by several purrgil, large space-dwelling creatures capable of traveling through hyperspace. The crew of the Ghost later came to the purrgil's aid when two TIE/mg Mining Guild starfighters attacked them. With the help of the purrgil, the rebels managed to steal several fuel canisters and destroy the refinery. The Ghost then joined the purrgil in their hyperspace travels.
The Ghost later took part in a mission with the Phoenix Squadron to steal supplies from the Empire. One of the rebels' Hammerhead corvettes managed to transfer a piece of cargo aboard the Ghost through its docking ring. At the same time, the rebel ships were under attack from an Imperial Star Destroyer and several TIE fighters. One of Phoenix Squadron's A-wing starfighters, "Phoenix Two," was hit by enemy fire and its hyperdrive was damaged. Phoenix Two attempted to dock her ship with the Ghost, but was hit by enemy fire. As a result, Hera and Kanan, with the approval of Commander Sato, took part in a mission to steal an Imperial carrier above Ryloth. Later, the Ghost hosted a meeting between the Spectres and Cham's Free Ryloth Movement.
The Ghost also took part in a mission to investigate an Imperial construction module above Geonosis. While Hera along with Chopper and Rex stayed aboard the ship, Kanan and the other rebels ventured into the complex. Shortly later, they were ambushed by Imperial stormtroopers led by Kallus, a perennial foe of the rebels. The Ghost itself was attacked by several All Terrain Defense Pod walkers. Following a struggle, most of the rebels except Zeb managed to retreat to the Ghost. The Ghost was pursued by several TIE fighters, but managed to lose them by flying through one of the construction modules, causing a TIE fighter to collide with an AT-DP walker. Later, the Ghost was used to search and rescue Zeb. They managed to track his transponder down to the icy moon of Bahryn, where he and Kallus had formed an unlikely friendship to survive the cold and the bonzami beasts.
Several months later, Hera rendezvoused the Ghost to meet the Phoenix in deep space. Kanan, Chopper, and Ezra had just returned from a mission to scout the planet Oosalon for a potential rebel base where they had run into the Fifth Brother and the Seventh Sister. Unwilling to endanger the fleet, Kanan had instructed Hera to meet them in deep space. The Ghost also hosted a meeting between Tano and Kanan and Ezra. The three Jedi agreed to visit the Jedi Temple on Lothal to seek answers from Jedi Master Yoda on how to deal with the threat posed by the Inquisitors. Hera, Sabine, and Zeb stayed aboard the Ghost while the Jedi and Chopper traveled on the Phantom to Lothal.
The Ghost later took part in a heist to steal fuel from the Imperial depot at Horizon Base. The group had planned to set up a base in the Yost system, but lacked sufficient fuel to travel there. While the other rebels raided the depot and stole the fuel, Chopper was assigned to guard the ship. However, he got distracted by a droid leg being sold nearby and consequently got stranded when the other rebels were forced to make a hasty retreat. The Ghost then returned to the rebel fleet only to find it under attack by Imperial forces under Admiral Konstantine, who ordered his TIE fighters not to let the Ghost deliver fuel to the rebel fleet's fighter carrier. However, the Ghost was saved by the timely intervention of Ketsu Onyo, Sabine's friend who used her starship Shadow Caster to provide cover. After receiving information from Chopper and the former Imperial inventory droid AP-5 that the Imperials had set a trap in the Yost system, the rebels instead traveled to the planet Atollon, which had no Imperial presence.
Following the discovery of Atollon, the Phoenix rebels established a base called Chopper Base on the planet. The Ghost assisted in the construction of the base by ferrying supplies from the rebel fleet. After ferrying a shipment of power generators to Chopper Base, the Ghost was parked beside a Sphyrna-class corvette. Later, the Ghost took part in a mission to rescue Sabine and Rex, after they were attacked by several spider-like creatures called krykna. Sabine and Wren had visited the northern perimeter following the disappearance of the rebel lieutenant Dicer. During the rescue attempt, the Ghost was trapped underneath a krykna web but the rebels managed to break free of it with their lightsabers. Following the skirmish, the Ghost escaped back to the safety of Chopper Base. The following day, the rebels erected a perimeter fence consisting of sensor beacons to protect the base from the krykna.
The Ghost remained at Chopper Base for the duration of Kanan, Ezra, Ahsoka, and Chopper's mission to Malachor. After Ezra, Kanan, and Chopper returned from the expedition, the Spectres were aboard the Ghost while coming to terms with the loss of Ahsoka and Kanan's blinding at the hands of the rogue Sith Lord Maul. In Ezra's private quarters aboard the ship, the young Jedi accessed a Sith holocron that he had obtained from the Malachor Sith Temple.
Two years before the Battle of Yavin, the Ghost participated in a mission to rescue Hondo Ohnaka from the Imperial prison on Naraka. While Hera waited aboard the Ghost, Ezra and his team infiltrated the prison and freed Hondo and his cellmate Terba, who was killed during the escape attempt. Due to the presence of Imperial troops and the mountainous terrain, Hera undertook a "44 scoop" at Ezra's suggestion and the rebels along with Hondo jumped on top of the ship. Later, Ezra consulted his Sith holocron inside his room aboard the Ghost. During the mission to Reklam Station, Hera and Kanan used the Ghost to rescue Ezra from the disintegrating orbital junkyard after losing the Phantom. The Ghost and the Phoenix battle cruisers then fled with their stolen Y-wing starfighters into hyperspace.
Later, Maul captured the Ghost and its crew including Hera, Chopper, Zeb, and Sabine. Maul then attempted to force Kanan and Ezra to give him the Sith holocron as well as Jarrus' holocron in exchange for the safe return of their friends. Maul then forced Syndulla to give him a tour of the Ghost and show him Jarrus' quarters. There, he found the Jedi holocron and attempted to open it to no avail. The crew then attempted to subdue Maul but failed. The Ghost then went to the abandoned Mandalorian outpost Vizsla Keep 09 where Maul kept a base. Later, Maul gave his modified tour guide droids orders to execute the prisoners in the cargo hold of the Ghost. However, they were stopped by Kanan.
Due to the Ghosts association with the rebellion, a simulated version of the ship appeared during a training exercise at the elite Skystrike Academy. Captain Vult Skerris used one such simulation to teach Wedge Antilles and the undercover rebel agent Sabine Wren the important of following orders. Later, Hera and the Spectres used the Ghost to undertake a supply run to the Free Ryloth movement. After rescuing her father and the rebel fighter Numa, the two rebel cells joined forces in an unsuccessful mission to recover an artifact called the Syndulla Kalikori from Grand Admiral Thrawn. Despite failing to recover the object, the rebels managed to escape a trap set by Thrawn's second-in-command Captain Slavin and escaped aboard the Ghost.
The Ghost later flew the Spectres and Rex to the planet Agamar on a mission to salvage proton bombs from a wrecked Separatist supply ship. Hera and Sabine departed on the Ghost and raided an Imperial fuel depot. They escaped a plot by Governor Pryce to trap them, but stayed in space awaiting further communications from Rex and the other rebels. Meanwhile, the other rebels joined forces with a Separatist holdout led by the super tactical droid Kalani to escape Imperial forces. Hera later reestablished contact with Rex and Kanan, who revealed that they had found the Ghost a new transport: Phantom II.
The Ghost was part of a Phoenix Squadron force that traveled to Mykapo in order to evacuate rebel sympathizers before an Imperial crackdown. The Ghost was briefly involved in a dogfight with Imperial TIE fighters. After the skirmish, Hera docked the Ghost with Sato's Hammer, a YT-2400 light freighter that was home to a rebel cell calling themselves the Iron Squadron. After failing to convince Iron Squadron to leave Mykapo before Imperial reinforcements arrived, Hera took the Ghost back to rejoin the rebel fleet. Ezra, Sabine, and Chopper stayed behind on the Phantom II in an attempt to win over Iron Squadron. Later, the Ghost took part in a skirmish with Imperial forces under Admiral Konstantine and managed to ferry the Iron Squadron captain Mart Mattin and his ship to safety. The Ghost also flew over Konstantine's Arquitens-class command cruiser, which allowed Mart to drop a bomb over the ship. The Ghost and the rest of Phoenix Squadron then fled into hyperspace just as Grand Admiral Thrawn arrived in an Imperial Star Destroyer.
The Spectres later used the Ghost to rendezvous with Hondo's repurposed Imperial landing craft. Hondo and his new business partner Azmorigan managed to convince the rebels to help them extract treasure from an Imperial cargo ship that had become stranded in the stormy upper atmosphere of the planet Wynkahthu. Hondo managed to convince the rebels to help them by pointing out to the presence of proton bombs, a commodity needed by the rebellion. Hera and Kanan flew the Ghost while the other rebels boarded the derelict cargo ship. Following a dangerous mission, the rebels and their confederates managed to obtain the treasure and the weapons before parting company.
Following a recon mission undertaken by Ezra, Kanan, Chopper, and Azadi's rebel cell to steal the plans for Thrawn's new starfighter initiative, Hera assembled a strike team to attack the Imperial Armory Complex on the planet Lothal. Before the mission could proceed, Ezra succumbed to Force visions created by Maul. Later, Ezra awoke aboard his quarters on the Ghost and insisted that everything was fine. However, Ezra was relieved of his role in the mission after he nearly killed a rebel trooper whom he mistook for Maul. At the advice of Kanan, Hera departed on the Ghost to lead the attack on the Lothal Imperial factory.
Later, the Spectres and Rex traveled on the Ghost to Geonosis to search for Saw Gerrera, who had embarked on a mission to investigate the apparent disappearance of the Geonosian species. While Kanan, Ezra, Chopper, and Rex explored a Geonosian structure and Sabine and Zeb went to investigate a nearby deflector shield generator, Hera stayed aboard the Ghost to look after the ship. After Kanan's team found Saw and a Geonosian named Klik-Klak and Sabine and Zeb had obtained a deflector core, the Ghost shot down two Imperial TIE bombers that had been dispatched from Captain Brunson's Arquitens-class command cruiser.
Hera then flew the Ghost into an air shaft to rendezvous with Kanan's team. Once Kanan's team and Saw, an argument broke out between the Spectres, Rex, and Saw concerning the latter's harsh interrogation methods towards Klik-Klak. The rebels then joined forces to fight off an Imperial boarding party of Jumptroopers as the Ghost fled into the depths of Geonosis. Once underground, the rebels discovered several poison canisters which proved that the Empire had perpetrated genocide against the Geonosians. After allowing Klik-Klak to flee into the depths of Geonosis with the Geonosian queen egg, the rebels used the Ghost to fight their way out of the air shaft before Brunson's light cruiser could collapse the structure on top of them. The Ghost also damaged the Imperial ship with proton torpedoes before fleeing into space.
The Ghost later took part in a training exercise with other elements of the Phoenix Squadron. The ship later returned to Chopper Base after Hera received a report from Zeb about an Imperial infiltration attempt. Later, Fenn Rau visited Kanan to discuss the importance of the Darksaber, an ancient Mandalorian symbol of leadership and power. Fenn, Kanan, and Hera believed that Sabine could learn how to wield the weapon and lead the Mandalorians over to the rebellion. During a meeting aboard the ship's common room, Sabine reluctantly agreed to accept the challenge of leadership and combat.
Later, Captain Hera, Ezra, Zeb, and Chopper took the Ghost to deep space to rendezvous with another rebel group, which turned out to be the former Imperial Senator Mon Mothma and the Y-wing squadron Gold Squadron. The Ghost also destroyed an Imperial tactical infiltration pod, but failed to stop its E-XD-series infiltrator droid from alerting the Empire. After docking with Mothma's Taylander shuttle Chandrila Mistress, the Ghost crew proceeded to refuel several Y-wing fighters. The Ghost and Gold Squadron were then involved in a skirmish with an Imperial light cruiser and a Gozanti cruiser.
After evacuating Mothma and her crew from their stricken ship, the Ghost and Gold Squadron traveled through the dangerous Archeon pass in an effort to reach Dantooine. During the journey, the Ghost and its Y-wing escorts were attacked by a prototype TIE Defender. The Ghost also sustained some hull damage from the intense radiation of the Archeon Nebula. After exiting the nebula, the Ghost was intercepted by two Imperial Star Destroyers commanded by Governor Pryce and Admiral Konstantine. The rebels managed to free the Ghost from Pryce's Star Destroyer's tractor beam when Hera convinced Gold Leader Jon Vander and Ezra to fire their proton torpedoes into the nebula. After reaching Dantooine, Mon Mothma gave a speech announcing the formation of the Alliance to Restore the Republic aboard the Ghost. Shortly later, the Ghost was joined by a rebel fleet.
Following the formation of the Rebel Alliance, Hera along with Ezra and Zeb stayed aboard the Ghost while Chopper departed with AP-5 and Wedge Antilles on an undercover mission to steal clearance codes from the Imperial Security Bureau station on Killun 71 for the upcoming attack on Lothal. During the course of the mission, Chopper was hijacked by a team of Imperial slicers based aboard a Gozanti-class cruiser, who wanted to find the location of Chopper Base. The hijacked Chopper trapped his fellow crew in the Ghosts cargo bay and tried to expose them to zero gravity space.
Chopper also installed a data spike into the Ghosts navigation computer. Before the Imperials could finish downloading the data, AP-5 managed to unseal the cargo bay from outside. Despite AP-5 being pushed into space by Chopper, the Spectres and Wedge manage to retake the ship and restore Chopper's original programming. In retaliation for hurting her droid, Hera overloaded the Imperial cruiser with a large amount of data, causing the ship to explode. After repairing Chopper, the rebels rescued AP-5, who had found solitude in space.
During the Battle of Atollon, Hera flew the Ghost while Rex and Zeb operated the ship's guns. The Ghost was part of a rebel starship attack formation which tried to break Grand Admiral Thrawn's blockade of the Atollon system. The primary aim of the mission was to facilitate Ezra and Chopper's escape aboard the Gauntlet fighter Nightbrother so that they could call for outside help. This plan worked, but the rebel forces sustained heavy casualties. Later, Hera, Kanan, Zeb, Rex, General Jan Dodonna, AP-5, and other rebels fled Chopper Base aboard the Ghost after the Force-wielding Bendu unleashed a destructive storm. The Ghost and the rebel convoy were able to flee into hyperspace after Ezra and Mandalorian reinforcements led by Sabine destroyed Thrawn's second interdictor vessel. After three hyperspace jumps to mislead the Imperials, the rebels traveled to Yavin 4.
The Spectres later used the Ghost to travel on a mission to install a spike on the Imperial relay on Jalindi. For the mission, Hera, Kanan, and Zeb remained aboard the Ghost while Sabine, Ezra, and Chopper jumped onto the relay's satellite dish. The Ghost remained airborne, waiting to pick up the infiltration team. When Commander Brom Titus discovered the presence of the rebel infiltrators, the Ghost was involved in a brief dogfight with Titus' light cruiser Marauder, which deployed several TIE Defenders. While Hera led the Imperial fighters on a chase through nearby canyons, Zeb manned the ship's rear cannons. With Hera unable to see through the fog, Kanan used the Force to guide her.
After defeating the pursuing TIEs, Hera flew the Ghost back to the Jalindi relay only to learn that Saw Gerrera had destroyed the relay stationed and rescued Sabine's team. Not trusting Saw, Hera followed the Partisan leader into hyperspace. Hera and her team traveled aboard the Ghost to the empty Tonnis sector where Saw and Sabine's team had been unsuccessfully investigating the Empire's mysterious superweapon project. After an unstable giant kyber crystal destroyed a freighter and Captain Slavin's Star Destroyer, the Ghost evacuated Sabine, Ezra, and Chopper as well as several Imperial prisoners who had been kidnapped by the Empire. These subsequently joined the Rebel Alliance.
While the Ghost was traveling to the Alliance headquarters on Yavin 4, Ezra experienced a Force vision of Jho and Azadi on Lothal. After the Ghost landed outside the Great Temple, the Spectres were met by Erskin Semaj, who summoned them for a meeting with Alliance leader Mon Mothma. Mothma assigned the Spectres on a mission to Lothal to gather intelligence on the Empire's new TIE Defender. While the Spectres infiltrated the planet, Rex and the Imperial defector Alexsandr Kallus were tasked with manning the Ghost in orbit above Lothal. The Ghost later returned to Yavin 4. After Hera returned to Yavin 4 on a U-wing with the stolen TIE Defender's hyperdrive, she parked the U-wing near the Ghost.
Following Kanan Jarrus' death and events at the Lothal Jedi Temple, Hera traveled with Rex and Kallus aboard the Ghost to Seelos where she recruited Gregor, Wolffe, Ohnaka, Melch, and Onyo to help Ezra liberate his homeworld from the Empire. While traveling back to Lothal, Hondo convinced Hera and Kallus to latch the Ghost onto the hull of a class four container transport. After waiting on the edge of a hyperspace lane, the Ghost latched onto the container transport and traveled through the Imperial blockade.
After entering Lothal's atmosphere, Hera flew the Ghost to the Lothal resistance's cliff dwelling and helped to route Governor Pryce's forces. Hera bombed Pryce's patrol transport before landing reinforcements in the form of Rex, Gregor, Wolffe, and Kallus. Hondo and Melch then used the Ghosts turret cannons to shoot down two more patrol transports. This helped turn the tide of the skirmish in the Spectres and Lothal resistance's favor.
Before the assault on the "Dome," Ezra reflected on his parents' sacrifices in the Ghosts top turret. After Thrawn's Noghri assassin Rukh stole the last patrol transport, Mattin along with Wolffe and Vizago flew the Ghost into Lothal's upper atmosphere under Ezra's instructions and transmitted a message on Frequency Zero. This was a signal for a large pod of space-faring purrgil to attack Thrawn's fleet above Lothal. Mattin and Wolffe then flew the Ghost towards the "Dome" and Thrawn's Imperial Star Destroyer Chimaera. The purrgil latched onto the Chimaera and carried Ezra and Thrawn into deep space.
With the Star Destroyers gone, the rebels were clear to finish their mission. Wolffe and Mattin used the Ghost to evacuate the rebel strike team from the "Dome", a mobile Imperial Planetary Occupation Facility, that was now ascending into Lothal's upper atmosphere. After evacuating the rebels, Sabine used detonators to blow up the facility, killing Governor Pryce and most of the Imperial garrison. Afterwards, Hera ordered Rex to bring up every star map along Ezra's last known path, but Chopper activated a pre-recorded hologram of the Padawan. Ezra explained that this had not been his preferred path, but he needed to do it. Concluding the message, he told the crew that he would return one day, stating that they were his family. As Lothal's population celebrated, the Ghost did a fly-over Capital City.
In 1 BBY, The Ghost was part of the ships stationed at Base One. During this time General Hera Syndulla was called to the command room and Chopper was around the base.
Later, the Ghost, flown by General Syndulla, was part of the Alliance Fleet which engaged Imperial forces in a battle above Scarif as the plans for the Death Star superweapon were stolen through the efforts of Rogue One.
During the battle, the Ghost provided covering fire for the flagship Profunditys bridge, destroying at least one TIE fighter. At the conclusion of the battle, the Ghost managed to retreat with the majority of the Rebel fleet before the arrival of Darth Vader.
The Ghost was part of the Alliance fleet that participated in the Battle of Endor. After the battle, the Ghost was parked beside the Millennium Falcon, unloading supplies for the Rebels on Endor. During its time on Endor, the Ghost engaged two TIE starfighters that had survived the Battle of Endor and was again equipped with a VCX-series starfighter, replacing the Phantom II.
At some point, Chopper, Syndulla, and her son who had been fathered by Jarrus, Jacen Syndulla, flew together in the Ghost.
Hera Syndulla initially participated in the Battle of Jakku aboard her flagship the Star Destroyer Deliverance, but after it was critically damaged by the 204th Imperial Fighter Wing and Palal Seedia's explosive that was detonated within the starship, Hera boarded the Ghost to continue the battle.
The Ghost was among the ships in the Citizens' Fleet brought to Exegol by Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca during the battle of Exegol. It was temporarily disabled alongside the rest of the fleet when the resurrected Darth Sidious shot an extreme amount of lightning into the air, but continued engaging the Sith Eternal forces when his attention turned to his granddaughter Rey. After the battle, the Ghost landed on Ajan Kloss, where the Resistance was celebrating the defeat of the Sith Eternal.
The Ghost was first unveiled on July 27, 2013 at Celebration Europe II, as part of some concept art for the series. When it was unveiled, it received a great deal of applause. In addition, several Rebel pins also contained hidden hints to locating schematics of the ship online, which was eventually discovered to be the StarWars.com Blog's article, "Seen a ghost?"
According to Star Wars author Paul Urquhart, the Ghosts cockpit was inspired by the real-life Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress. The ship also appeared in the film Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker; Amy Beth Christenson confirmed the ship seen in the movie as the Ghost during an interview with Wired.
The Ghosts cockpit was originally designed for the Silver Angel, a starship intended to appear in a sixth season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars that never happened due to the series' cancellation. The crew decided to reuse the cockpit as they liked the design and felt at the time that there was no other way it was going to be seen; however, the Silver Angel would ultimately appear when The Clone Wars was renewed for a seventh and final season on Disney+ in 2020.
