In a reckless bid to right one of his many past wrongs, Cade Skywalker has become a prisoner of the Sith. It's a banner day for Emperor Darth Krayt, who hopes that Skywalker's abilities will complete Krayt's longtime quest to restore his own power.
But the other Sith are less certain of their Master's motives. And there are others within the Empire who would rather see Cade dead than a pawn of the Emperor.
And Cade himself is none too happy about his situation. But what can he do? He turned his back on every friend who might come to his aid. He's made bad choices, and now he has to live—or die—with them!

In a Mofference, the Moffs discuss the power that they could possess if they captured Cade Skywalker. Meanwhile, Cade is being tortured by the Sith. He is resistant to Darth Maladi's poison being injected into his system, which impresses Darth Krayt. He asks Cade to turn to the dark side, to which he responds with a huge refusal. He then brings out Jariah Syn and Deliah Blue. He tells Cade that they have been poisoned with a Vong seed, and that only his healing powers can save them, forcing him to tap into the dark power and heal them. He then agrees to let Darth Krayt try to convince him to turn to the dark side if he lets Jariah and Deliah go. Krayt agrees, and they go free. Days later, Krayt calls for a private meeting between him, Cade, and Talon. He reveals Kol Skywalker's lightsaber encased in transparisteel, showing how the dark side doesn't prevent you from practicing deeds of pride or respect. He then reveals to the two his true identity of A'Sharad Hett.
