The lightsaber pike, also known as the Jedi Temple Guard lightsaber, was a lightsaber variant similar to the double-bladed lightsaber, featuring two rare yellow plasma blades on each side of the staff, and used by the Jedi Temple Guard.
The lightsaber pike was a thick, imposing lightsaber variant similar in design to the double-bladed lightsaber; in that it was a staff-shaped weapon that featured two rare and distinctive yellow plasma blades projecting from either end. Some lightsaber pikes had a haft that when activated emitted a shoto blade that made it two to three meters long, and also came in a hinged version. Darth Bane had a unique lightsaber pike that was a single-blade and had an extremely long handle. Luke Skywalker also had a single-blade variation but due to it's damage state it was modified to a standard hilt.
The ancient Sith Lord Darth Bane wielded a unique lightsaber pike with an unconventional fiery orange blade.
Lightsaber pikes were used by the Jedi Temple Guards, Knights of the Jedi Order who were sworn to protect the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. During the Clone Wars, they were used during Ahsoka Tano's Jedi trial to keep Anakin Skywalker restrained after the Council's decision. Later, they were used to isolate the duel between Anakin and Padawan Barriss Offee, and escort her to the Republic military base.
Several years after the Clone Wars, Kanan Jarrus experienced a Force vision in which he saw a lightsaber pike on a wall rack containing various lightsabers. The Jedi Temple Guards—including the Grand Inquisitor, had a foldable lightsaber pike.
In 3 ABY, Luke Skywalker, entered an abandoned Jedi outpost, where he noticed a damaged lightsaber pike next to a Jedi Temple Guard armor. After claiming it as his own, Skywalker immediately used it to defend himself against The Grand Inquisitor's red-bladed lightsaber. Skywalker then used the still functional half of the lightsaber and repaired the damaged end to function as a standard lightsaber until he created his own lightsaber.
The lightsaber pike first appeared in The Force Unleashed, a 2008 Star Wars Legends novel written by Sean Williams.
In the planning stages of "The Wrong Jedi," the lightsaber pikes carried by the Jedi Temple Guards were originally to have green blades. However, they later became yellow, making them the first lightsabers to canonically have a yellow blade.
A single-bladed lightsaber pike dubbed the "Sith lightsaber pike" was designed for use by Darth Bane in "Sacrifice," the thirteenth episode of the canon animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars sixth season, though it did not appear in the episode's final cut. This version of the weapon bore a greater resemblance to the lightsaber pike as depicted in the non-canon Legends continuity. The weapon's existence was later canonized by the reference book Star Wars: The Secrets of the Sith in 2021.
