Official description

"To complete his trials, Yoda journeys to Moraband, the ancient Sith world, to confront an age-old evil with designs on galactic domination."

Plot summary

In order to be taught the secrets of the Force by the Force Priestesses and retain his identity after death, Yoda arrives on Moraband, the original homeworld of the Sith, to complete their last trial. Should he not return in three nights, Yoda instructs R2-D2 to go back to Coruscant.

As Yoda traverses Moraband's desolate terrain, he encounters an illusion of a massive serpent. Specters of Sith warriors also manifest, yet Yoda remains fearless and unharmed. Simultaneously, Count Dooku senses an anomaly and is urgently summoned back to Coruscant by Darth Sidious.

Yoda enters a Sith temple upon his return to Moraband. Suddenly, the spectre of Darth Bane appears, challenging Yoda, who recognizes him. Bane explains the origins of the Rule of Two and that his knowledge was passed on to only one. After Yoda dismisses him as an illusion who has been dead for centuries, Bane vanishes. The Force Priestesses then instruct Yoda to enter a dark temple where the Sith once sacrificed Jedi, though the nature of his final trial remains unknown.

On Coruscant, Darth Sidious plots to assault Yoda on Moraband using Sith sorcery, exploiting Darth Tyranus' connection to Yoda. Sidious uses Tyranus' blood to generate an illusion fueled by the Force lightning of both Sith Lords.

Within the temple on Moraband, Yoda encounters an apparition of a dying Sifo-Dyas. Sifo-Dyas implores Yoda to release him and reveals knowledge of the Sith Lord's true identity. Yoda resists, viewing the illusion of Sifo-Dyas as a Sith temptation, and refuses to admit his desires.

Sifo-Dyas then transforms into Darth Sidious, and Yoda finds himself on a gunship with Anakin Skywalker, Rex, and the other clones of the 501st Legion. Confused, Yoda questions Skywalker, who explains that a mysterious ship, possibly of Separatist origin and carrying Count Dooku, was discovered landing in The Works. Yoda deduces that Dooku is meeting with the Sith Lord, whom Yoda is determined to expose. Upon arrival, the Jedi and clones confront Count Dooku and Darth Sidious. Dooku incapacitates the clones with Force lightning, and Anakin engages him in a lightsaber duel. Yoda pursues Darth Sidious, only to witness Skywalker injure Dooku's leg, forcing him to kneel, and seize the Sith's lightsaber. Despite Yoda's protests, Anakin beheads Dooku, compelling Yoda to continue his pursuit of Sidious, who flees the chamber.

Yoda and Sidious engage in a duel on an outdoor walkway. Anakin joins Yoda, but Sidious's Force lightning incapacitates him. As Yoda continues to fight, the walkway supporting Anakin begins to collapse. Yoda uses the Force to prevent the unconscious Skywalker from falling, while defending against Sidious with his lightsaber. Sidious suggests that Yoda sacrifice Skywalker to defeat him and thwart his plans. Willing to sacrifice everything, including himself, Yoda puts away his lightsaber and endures direct hits from Sidious's Force lightning to save his friend.

As the portion of the walkway Yoda and Sidious are standing on begins to collapse, Yoda throws his lightsaber in Sidious's direction to fully break it, preventing the Sith from climbing to safety. Both Yoda and Sidious fall to the ground below, but upon removing Sidious's hood, Yoda finds only empty robes.

With his final trial complete, Yoda awakens from his vision, and the Force Priestesses announce that he will train with Qui-Gon Jinn to retain his identity in the future. Yoda glimpses the future and hears his eventual last words, "There is Another Skywalker." Back on Coruscant, Darth Sidious and Darth Tyranus realize they have failed to break Yoda, understanding that more time is needed to completely eradicate the Jedi.

Yoda returns to Coruscant, where Mace Windu and Obi-Wan Kenobi await him. They mention that the Jedi High Council eagerly anticipates hearing about Yoda's journey, but Yoda claims there is little to report. Choosing not to share his experiences, Yoda expresses his newfound belief that there may be a better path to victory than the Clone Wars. Yoda asserts that the Jedi's participation in the Clone Wars has likely already resulted in defeat, but that a path unknown to the Sith exists that could lead to a lasting victory for the Jedi Order.

Continuity

Moraband, as seen in "Sacrifice"

"Sacrifice" marks the debut of Moraband, the homeworld of the Sith, within the Star Wars: The Clone Wars narrative. During the development of the story, George Lucas expressed his preference for the name "Moraband" over the previously used "Korriban," leading to its adoption in the episode. However, the episode guide's trivia section clarifies that Moraband might have been known by different names throughout its history.

The illusion experienced by Yoda references numerous events from Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. Anakin Skywalker's method of killing Dooku closely mirrors his actual death, with the sole variation being Anakin's injury to Dooku's leg (similar to Dooku's injury to Obi-Wan Kenobi in Attack of the Clones) instead of severing his hands. Additionally, the combat between Darth Sidious and Yoda, including the breaking of bridges and Yoda's deflection of Sidious's Force lightning, echoes the action from Revenge of the Sith.

Similar to "The Wrong Jedi," this episode concludes with a fade to black instead of the conventional iris out wipe.
