X-45

The X-45 was a type of blaster rifle used during the era of the Galactic Civil War. A significant shortcoming of the initial X-45 rifles was their susceptibility to malfunctions when impacted by external objects, a problem that was addressed in the subsequent X-47 model. During his hunt for the rebel Lando Calrissian on the planet Arkanis in 4 ABY, the Trandoshan bounty hunter Bossk carried a first-generation X-45.

Description

Bossk on Arkanis, with an X-45 on his back

The X-45 was a blaster rifle utilized across the galaxy throughout the Galactic Civil War. Predominantly colored black, the rifle featured an elongated barrel along with a dual scope system – one component positioned above the trigger mechanism, while the other was situated at the barrel's extremity, projecting slightly outward. Furthermore, the rifle incorporated a gray stock and a pair of hand grips, accompanied by a brown sling designed for carrying the weapon across the back. Early X-45 rifles had a tendency to jam when struck by objects such as rocks, a deficiency that was corrected in its successor, the X-47.

History

The Trandoshan bounty hunter Bossk was equipped with a first-generation X-45 while operating on the Outer Rim planet of Arkanis in 4 ABY. Bossk, in his attempt to claim a bounty on the rebel Lando Calrissian, found himself in competition with the bounty hunter Boushh, who was actually the disguised rebel Princess Leia Organa. During an exchange of fire with Bossk, Organa exploited the X-45's inherent weakness by firing her blaster pistol at a nearby rock formation behind the Trandoshan. The resulting rockslide impacted Bossk's X-45, causing it to jam, which forced the disarmed bounty hunter to relinquish his pursuit of Calrissian.

Behind the scenes

Age of Rebellion - Princess Leia 1 marked the first appearance of the X-45 in the current Star Wars canon.

The X-45 made its debut in the current Star Wars canon within the one-shot comic titled Age of Rebellion - Princess Leia 1, a part of the Star Wars: Age of Rebellion comic series. Greg Pak wrote the issue, which Marvel Comics released on April 10, 2019.

Within the Star Wars Legends continuity, the X-45 sniper rifle, also known as the "Riflette," was initially referenced in "Blasters for Hire," an article authored and illustrated by Anthony P. Russo. This article was featured in the third issue of the Star Wars Adventure Journal magazine in 1994. Subsequently, it made its first appearance in Plea Bargain, a Living Force roleplaying game adventure penned by Craig Baugh in 2005.

The X-45's portrayal in Age of Rebellion - Princess Leia 1 is significantly different from its earlier depiction in Legends. Instead, the comic presents it as being visually identical to the Relby-v10 mortar gun, which is Bossk's authorized weapon of choice.
