Assault on Coruscant

Around 3 ABY, the attack on Coruscant, also referred to as the mission to Coruscant, was executed by the Alliance to Restore the Republic with the purpose of damaging a statue of Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine. At that specific time, both Palpatine and Darth Vader were occupied with a Force anomaly, so the Alliance was hoping that the assault would unnerve them, causing them to be even more unbalanced. The Alliance also wanted to remind the galaxy that they were still fighting against the Galactic Empire. The rebels aimed to demonstrate their strength and fearlessness by attacking the Imperial capital planet of Coruscant. The plan for this assault was conceived by General Leia Organa, who, together with Admiral Gial Ackbar, presented it to a select group of rebel pilots.

Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca were joined by A-wing pilots Nien Nunb, Freyta Smyth, and Bryen Rowne for this particular mission. Despite the unfortunate deaths of Smyth and Rowne during the operation, it was ultimately considered a success, because the target was destroyed and the news of the bold rebel attack was broadcast across the HoloNet.
