Air shrimps, inhabitants of the upper, breathable atmosphere of the gas giant Bespin, were a species that made their home among the algal trees growing there. These creatures, found on the planet, exhibited a segmented body that ended in a barbed tail, pink skin, and black eyes. Notable features included a proboscis situated on the front of their head and three tendril-like limbs positioned just behind their eyes. Their wings appeared veined and tattered. To alert one another to the presence of predators, such as the rawwk (which pursued and consumed them), air shrimps moved in groups and displayed shimmering rainbow hues.
Sometime following 34 ABY, an image depicting an air shrimp was featured on a Bespin map. This map is believed to have been created by the artist Gammit Chond solely from accounts provided by travelers. Subsequently, the Graf Archive undertook the restoration and publication of this map.
The species known as air shrimp initially appeared in the 2015 reference work titled Ultimate Star Wars. Later, a visual representation of the creature was presented in the 2016 reference book Star Wars: Galactic Atlas, authored by Emil Fortune and featuring illustrations by Tim McDonagh.
