Rawwk

Rawwks were a type of being native to Bespin, the gas giant. They darted around the algal trees that thrived in the breathable upper atmosphere of that planet, building nests on massive floating beldons, and hunting swarms of air shrimp. These creatures had a small physique and two wings adorned with tan and blue plumage. The head featured a pair of eyes with small crests above them, along with a sizable mouth filled with teeth. Furthermore, these beings were characterized by a three-pronged blue tail and blue-and-red wingtips. A rawwk was depicted in an illustration found on a map of Bespin. It is believed that the artist Gammit Chond created the map based solely on stories from travelers. The Graf Archive later restored and released this map sometime after 34 ABY.

Behind the scenes

Within the current Star Wars canon, the reference book Ultimate Star Wars from 2015 contained the first mention of rawwks. Subsequently, the 2016 reference book Star Wars: Galactic Atlas, penned by Emil Fortune and illustrated by Tim McDonagh, included an image of these creatures. The Rawwks were originally part of the Star Wars Legends storyline, where Kevin J. Anderson conceived them for the 1994 novel Jedi Search.

The initial depiction of a rawwk in Legends was featured in Star Wars Trilogy Sourcebook, Special Edition, a 1997 supplement for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game, a game published by West End Games. Later, Terryl Whitlatch visually redesigned the creatures for the 1999 reference book The Wildlife of Star Wars: A Field Guide, and this particular design is the one utilized in the current canon.
