The Arkanian polar drake was a creature native to Arkania. The Arkanians held this species as sacred, and consequently, it was legally protected.
On its way to deliver exotic creatures (many of which were illegal for private citizens to possess) to Regent Solculvis of the Mol'leaj system, the cargo vessel Sketter's Quarrel had an Arkanian polar drake as cargo. During the voyage, kheilwar wasps escaped from a compromised container, resulting in the deaths of the vessel's crew and leaving it adrift.
The ship was found in 34 ABY, and the Sector Rangers documented the contents, including the polar drake. Police Commissioner Exantor Divo later included information from the Rangers' file in his book, Scum and Villainy: Case Files on the Galaxy's Most Notorious.
The 2018 reference book Star Wars: Scum and Villainy: Case Files on the Galaxy's Most Notorious, penned by Pablo Hidalgo, was the first instance where an Arkanian polar drake was mentioned.
