Attempted assassination of Admiral Nek Bwua'tu
The incident known as the attempted assassination of Admiral Nek Bwua'tu unfolded on Coruscant during the year 44 ABY. Admiral Nek Bwua'tu of the Galactic Alliance was targeted in an attack by a pair of assassins. These assassins, dispatched by General Merratt Jaxton, feigned the appearance of psychotic Jedi. Despite losing an arm and sustaining near-fatal injuries during the confrontation, he successfully eliminated one of his attackers. Subsequently, he was discovered and admitted to a hospital, where he remained in a coma.
Attack
In the year 44 ABY, Senators Haydnat Treen and [Fost Bramsin](/article/fost_bramsin] engaged in a plot with General Merratt Jaxton. Their objective was to depose Natasi Daala, the Chief of State of the Galactic Alliance, and seize control of the galaxy. To further their scheme, they placed Senator Sallinor Parova under the command structure of Alliance Admiral Nek Bwua'tu. Following this, the conspirators resolved to strengthen their influence within the government by eliminating Bwua'tu.
After spending the evening at the private residence of Daala, Bwua'tu made the choice to depart around 3:14 AM, intending to converse with Kenth Hamner, the acting Grand Master of the Jedi. However, as he traversed a transparisteel walkway on Coruscant, he was ambushed by two assassins. These attackers pretended to be psychotic Jedi, falsely accusing him of being an imposter of the "real" Nek Bwua'tu. One of the individuals activated a green-bladed lightsaber. Bwua'tu swiftly drew a blaster and began firing at his assailants, while simultaneously activating an emergency signal concealed in his vest pocket and leaping over the walkway's railing.
The Jedi managed to deflect the blaster bolts and pursued him with a jump. However, Bwua'tu skillfully evaded the Jedi's attack. He executed a kick, striking the Jedi behind the knee and causing it to buckle. Raising his blaster, he prepared to fire upon the attacker, but the Jedi sliced off his arm and prepared to strike again with the lightsaber. Bwua'tu retaliated by swinging his remaining arm to deflect the incoming blow, causing the lightsaber to be flung across the walkway floor. The Jedi immediately pursued it, but Bwua'tu swiftly seized him in a chokehold and bit down on the man's shoulder.
Despite this, the man managed to retrieve the lightsaber and struck at Bwua'tu over his shoulder, hitting his back with the blade. Bwua'tu released his throat and pinned down the man's lightsaber arm, forcing him to drop the lightsaber, but the man punched him in the head and quickly escaped from his grasp. Bwua'tu then realized that the fact that he had been able to survive this long meant that his attackers were not actually psychotic Jedi, but people pretending to be insane Jedi. Bwua'tu quickly grabbed his lost arm and fired the blaster in it at the attacker's face, killing him. However, the man fell on top of him, his lightsaber striking Bwua'tu's belly, and the Admiral spasmed and lost consciousness.
Aftermath
Bwua'tu was subsequently discovered and admitted to a hospital, where he remained in a comatose state. His damaged organs underwent repair and replacement by a 2-1 BXS combat-trauma surgical droid, and Daala requested that he be fitted with a prosthetic arm. Despite the lightsaber injuries, Daala remained unconvinced that Jedi were responsible for the attack, reasoning that they would not have failed. Although he remained unconscious, his brain activity exhibited a response when presented with an image of Madhi Vaandt, a journalist, on the news, leading Daala to suspect Vaandt's involvement in the incident.
Even though Bwua'tu survived the attack, the conspirators deemed it a success because Parova was promoted to acting Chief of Naval Operations in Bwua'tu's place.
