B-wing heavy assault starfighters functioned as heavily armed starfighters, typically deployed as attack vessels against larger capital ships, as well as to provide support for other fighter squadrons and protect convoys.
Quarrie, a Mon Calamari, was the original designer of the B-wing starfighter. Hera Syndulla persuaded him to allow Phoenix Squadron, a rebel group, to utilize his design in their fight against the Galactic Empire. Drawing influence from both the T-6 shuttle and the V-19 Torrent starfighter, the B-wing frequently stood out as the most powerfully armed starfighter in combat. These B-wings were part of the "blade wing" series. Throughout the Galactic Civil War, the Rebel Alliance employed A/SF-01 B-wing starfighters in numerous engagements, notably the Battle of Endor. Subsequently, the New Republic deployed them during the Battle of Jakku. Later, in the First Order-Resistance War, the Resistance utilized an updated variant during the Battle of Exegol.
