Quarrie

As a Mon Calamari male, Quarrie gained recognition for his work on a prototype B-wing starfighter. He developed this craft on the isolated planet of Shantipole sometime following the events of the Siege of Lothal. Following the utilization of the B-wing in the blockade of Ibaar, Project Shantipole proceeded with Quarrie overseeing its progress.

Biography

Aiding the Ghost Team

Quarrie was on Shantipole to design the Prototype B6.

During the Age of the Empire, Quarrie, a Mon Calamari engineer specializing in starship construction, made his home on the faraway planet of Shantipole. After the early rebellion experienced setbacks against the Galactic Empire during a failed blockade attempt, Hera Syndulla, a rebel, and her crew journeyed to Shantipole. Their mission was to acquire the prototype B-wing, known as the Prototype B6, which he nicknamed "Blade Wing." Initially, Quarrie showed a lack of interest, doubting Syndulla's capabilities as a suitable pilot for his creation. However, her personal narrative of aspiring to be a pilot since childhood moved him, leading him to permit her to test the starfighter.

Following a successful trial, the starfighter was transported to the rebel fleet. To facilitate this, he equipped Hera's shuttle, the Phantom, with a hyperdrive and an external astromech port. Subsequently, the Phantom towed the B-wing prototype to the planet Ibaar. Utilizing the B-wing's sophisticated weaponry, the rebels successfully breached the Imperial blockade surrounding Ibaar, delivering food to its starving population. Subsequently, Quarrie, accompanied by his Lothal astromech droid, BG-81, departed from the network fleet to supervise the production of additional B-wings for the rebel cause.

Onboard Home One

Eventually, Quarrie and BG-81 became part of the Alliance to Restore the Republic aboard Home One, where he worked as a mechanic alongside the Freemakers.

Personality and Traits

Quarrie's prototype became the template for the B-wing starfighter.

Quarrie, a male Mon Calamari of smaller stature, was a highly skilled engineer specializing in starship construction. He took great pride in his work and eagerly sought opportunities to experiment with speed, maneuverability, and weaponry. Despite his expertise in engineering, Quarrie was not a pilot himself, and he insisted on only allowing the most capable pilots to operate his Prototype B6 starfighter. His B6 prototype served as the foundation for the rebellion's A/SF-01 B-wing starfighter.

Behind the Scenes

Quarrie's name pays homage to concept artist Ralph McQuarrie. His debut occurred in the Star Wars Rebels Season Two episode titled "Wings of the Master," which was broadcast on Disney XD on November 11, 2015. Corey Burton provided his voice, later reprising the role in the second season of LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures.

Encounters with the Freemakers

Quarrie and the Freemakers

During the second season of The Freemaker Adventures, Quarrie is depicted as an engineer serving the Rebel Alliance aboard their flagship, Home One. While performing an errand for General Syndulla, Quarrie crossed paths with Rowan Freemaker. Upon learning that Quarrie was in search of components to construct a starship capable of shifting the balance in the Galactic Civil War, Rowan extended an invitation for Quarrie to accompany his family on a salvage run to the planet Tibalt. There, they encountered Emperor Palpatine's new hunter droid, M-OC, but managed to evade the droid.

After Rowan experienced a Force vision prompting him to construct a powerful starship known as the Arrowhead, he shared his vision with Quarrie. Given Rowan's inability to articulate the ship's design, Quarrie took him and the B1-series battle droid Roger to the city of Alistan Nor on the planet Alistan Nor to cultivate an understanding of style and craftsmanship. There, Rowan had a vision of the Arrowhead. Despite an attack by M-OC, the trio successfully escaped.

Quarrie played a crucial role in assisting the Freemakers with the construction of the Arrowhead. He remained aboard the Home One while the Freemakers embarked on a quest to gather the necessary components for the starship, including an embersteel blade, a proton suspension housing, an energy matrix activator, and a massive kyber crystal.

Although the Freemakers acquired a giant kyber crystal, their return coincided with an Imperial attack on the rebel fleet. Recognizing the danger of assembling the Arrowhead during a space battle, Quarrie arranged for the Freemakers and Alliance pilot Lieutenant Colvett Valeria to transport the Arrowhead to the deserted planet of Jakku. Following the Arrowhead's sinking into quicksand and subsequent explosion, Quarrie and Rowan collaborated to rebuild the ship. Despite the loss of the ship's energy matrix activator to the Imperial officers Durpin and Plumestriker, they successfully reconstructed the Arrowhead, which played a significant role in defeating the Imperial fleet and forcing their retreat.

Following the completion of the quest to build the Arrowhead, Quarrie suggested that Rowan take a break, while Rowan's older siblings Zander and Kordi Freemaker piloted the Arrowhead in combat and offered counsel to Alliance High Command. However, Rowan, accompanied by a reluctant Roger, embarked on a mission to rescue his Lurmen friend Maynar. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a trap orchestrated by M-OC, who captured Rowan. Subsequently, Darth Vader apprehended Rowan, intending to exploit the boy's abilities to locate additional kyber crystals.

Following the Freemakers' mission to rescue Rowan, Quarrie piloted the Freemakers' ship, the StarScavenger, into the Coruscant system and rescued them from M-OC, who had seized control of the Arrowhead. With M-OC in pursuit, Quarrie convinced the Freemakers to seek refuge on Shantipole, where he maintained a base of operations. There, Quarrie and the Freemakers collaborated to trap and eliminate M-OC. During a skirmish, both the Arrowhead and the StarScavenger were destroyed, but M-OC survived. Before M-OC could harm Rowan, Rowan persuaded him to abandon the hunt but inadvertently convinced the droid that the Empire had a flaw in the second Death Star.

After Rowan rebuilt the StarScavenger, incorporating components from the Arrowhead, Quarrie accompanied the Freemakers to Sullust, only to discover that the rebel fleet had already departed for the Battle of Endor. Following Rowan's retrieval of the Kyber Saber from the lava fields of Sullust, Quarrie and the Freemakers participated in the Battle of Endor. They successfully breached the second Death Star's deflector shield but were subsequently captured by stormtroopers. However, they were liberated by Zander's love interest, Becky Smoochenbacher. Quarrie, Zander, Kordi, and Roger returned to their ship and rescued Rowan, who defeated M-OC and enabled the rebels to destroy the second Death Star's reactor core. Following the Battle of Endor, Quarrie attended the rebel celebrations at Bright Tree Village, where he proposed design modifications to the X-wing to Lieutenant Valeria.
