Arrowhead (Freemakers)

The Arrowhead was a starship crafted by Rowan Freemaker, who held the strong conviction that it possessed the power to shift the balance in the Galactic Civil War. In the time leading up to the Battle of Endor, Rowan, alongside his siblings Zander and Kordi, as well as their B1-series battle droid Roger, embarked on a quest to gather all the necessary components for its construction. Following its completion on Jakku, the Arrowhead met its end during a skirmish that occurred over Shantipole. However, some of its salvaged parts were integrated into the Freemakers' vessel, the StarScavenger, just in the nick of time for the Battle of Endor.

Description

Quarrie and Zander Freemaker working on the Arrowhead

The Arrowhead possessed a design reminiscent of an arrowhead, hence its name. As a starship, it came equipped with a range of components, notably a pair of embersteel blades, a Farium fusion conduit, a proton suspension housing, an energy matrix activator, and a substantial kyber crystal. The ship's embersteel blades were capable of slicing through nearly anything, and it also featured a pair of blaster cannons positioned on each of its sides.

History

Origins

After the mission to Tibalt, Rowan Freemaker had a Force vision where he saw himself constructing the Arrowhead. Rowan later shared the details of his vision with Quarrie, a Mon Calamari Rebel Alliance starship engineer, but he struggled to give an accurate description of the ship. To impart a sense of style and skill in craftsmanship to Rowan, Quarrie took Rowan and the B1-series battle droid Roger to the ancient city of Alistan Nor, a location significant to the Force Builders. After ascending to the summit of the Tower of Alistan Nor, Rowan experienced another Force vision related to the Arrowhead.

Following an escape from an assault by the Imperial hunter droid M-OC, Rowan put together a model of the Arrowhead. Quarrie determined that they would require several items, including embersteel blades, a Farium fusion conduit, a proton suspension housing, an energy matrix activator, and a kyber crystal of bantha-like proportions. While Rowan's older siblings, Zander and Kordi Freemaker, felt overwhelmed, Rowan maintained his optimistic outlook.

Quest to build the Arrowhead

Under Kordi's guidance, the Freemakers then embarked on a mission to Mygeeto with the goal of acquiring a Theta-class H-2 executive shuttle to harvest its embersteel wings. Even after encountering difficulties involving the Hutt crime lord Graballa, the Freemakers were successful in obtaining the shuttle. The embersteel wings were subsequently melted down and fashioned into frontal blades.

During a mission aimed at rescuing the rebel agent Bren Derlin, the Freemakers sought assistance from the Weequay pirate Hondo Ohnaka to secure a proton suspension housing from a wrecked Corellian Defender located on the acidic planet of Taul. Despite Hondo's theft of their starship, the StarScavenger, and an attack by M-OC, the Freemakers, aided by Roger who subdued Hondo, managed to escape offworld with the proton suspension housing.

The Freemakers later made their way to their former residence, Freemaker Salvage and Repair on the Wheel, to obtain an energy matrix activator. Kordi's strategy involved sneaking into their old home under the cover of darkness to retrieve it. However, their mission was complicated by Roger's encounter with several Ranats and the arrival of Graballa the Hutt and his bounty hunters, who intended to deliver Rowan to Darth Vader. With Kordi's assistance, the Freemakers managed to break free from their captors and reunite with Roger. After evading Darth Vader, they escaped back to the rebel fleet with the energy matrix activator.

Following a failed attempt to acquire kyber crystals on the planet Qalydon, the Freemakers journeyed to an uncharted planet where Jedi Master Baird Kantoo had created the Kyber Saber many years prior. Using his Force building abilities, Rowan fashioned a massive kyber crystal from numerous smaller crystals within a pit. With all the necessary components gathered, the Freemakers then set course back to the rebel fleet.

With the rebel fleet under attack by Imperial forces, Quarrie convinced the Freemakers that assembling the Arrowhead offworld was essential. Quarrie assigned the rebel pilot Lieutenant Colvett Valeria the task of flying the Arrowhead to the planet Jakku. However, Valeria's landing resulted in the Arrowhead sinking into quicksand and subsequently exploding. Although most of the components were salvaged, the ship's energy matrix activator fell into the possession of the Imperial officers Durpin and Plumestriker.

Following a failed attempt by Zander and Roger to recover the matrix activator, Kordi donned a disguise as Darth Vader and created a diversion for the Imperial officers, allowing Valeria sufficient time to incapacitate them. While Valeria and Zander distracted the Imperials, Rowan and Quarrie rebuilt the Arrowhead. After Zander utilized the Arrowhead to destroy Durpin and Plumestriker's AT-ST walker, he and Rowan employed the fully functional starship to obliterate an Imperial Star Destroyer, compelling the Empire to retreat. The rebels hailed the Freemakers as heroes and awarded them with promotions.

Rebel service

The Emperor, enraged by the Imperial fleet's destruction at the hands of the Arrowhead, summoned his most trusted servants, Darth Vader and M-OC. The Emperor tasked Lord Vader and M-OC with collaborating to capture Rowan Freemaker, the Arrowhead, and the Kyber Saber.

In service to the Rebel Alliance, the Arrowhead engaged in action against Imperial forces on Kashyyyk. In support of Lieutenant Valeria's rebel and Wookiee forces on Kashyyyk, the Arrowhead destroyed one AT-ST walker and three AT-AT walkers. This event instilled fear in the AT-AT commander, who shared his account with Commander Estoc of the Star Destroyer Desolator.

Later, Zander piloted the Arrowhead to provide support for Lieutenant Valeria and Blue Squadron during a raid on an Imperial repair facility near Alzoc III. Despite the AT-AT commander's warnings, Estoc underestimated the threat posed by the Arrowhead. The Arrowhead destroyed a number of Star Destroyers utilizing its Embersteel Blade. Estoc's Star Destroyer attempted to ensnare the Arrowhead, but Valeria disabled the Star Destroyer's tractor beam projector. This allowed the Arrowhead to destroy the Desolator and return to the rebel fleet in triumph. However, the rebel victory was overshadowed by Lord Vader's capture of Rowan.

Rescuing Rowan

Unable to persuade the Alliance High Command to authorize a mission for the rescue of Rowan, Zander, Kordi, and M-OC resorted to stealing the Arrowhead from the Rebel Alliance. Lieutenant Valeria permitted them to "steal" the ship out of sympathy for their situation.

The Freemakers piloted the Arrowhead to Coruscant, the heavily fortified Imperial capital. The Arrowhead destroyed three Star Destroyers and multiple TIE fighters. Roger then dropped Kordi and Zander onto the highest spire of the Imperial Palace to enable them to rescue Rowan. Piloting the Arrowhead, Roger destroyed three more TIE fighters and M-OC's starship, the Tracker I.

He then flew the Arrowhead back to the Imperial Palace with the intention of picking up the Freemakers. However, M-OC had latched onto the ship's hull and hijacked the Arrowhead when Roger opened the canopy. After dismantling Roger and ejecting him, M-OC opened fire on the Freemakers, causing them to fall onto the battlements. Nevertheless, the Freemakers survived the fall due to Rowan's abilities and escaped offworld in an Ugly.

In M-OC's hands

After seizing control of the Arrowhead, M-OC informed the Emperor that he had captured the starship as atonement for his failure to capture Rowan. Having extracted the location of a planet abundant in kyber crystals from Rowan, the Emperor tasked M-OC with tracking down and eliminating the Freemakers.

Piloting the Arrowhead, M-OC attacked the Freemakers' TIE "Ugly." The Freemakers attempted to surrender, but M-OC rejected their offer and blasted the starship's solar collectors. Before M-OC could eliminate the Freemakers, Quarrie arrived aboard the StarScavenger and rescued them. Although the StarScavenger managed to escape into hyperspace, M-OC was able to track them using a XX-23 S-thread tracker.

The Arrowhead caught up with the StarScavenger within an asteroid field, but the Freemakers managed to escape to the stormy planet of Shantipole, where Quarrie maintained a base. While M-OC was unable to pursue the Freemakers due to the planet's turbulent upper atmosphere, the relentless droid circled the planet in his ship, awaiting the opportunity to destroy the Freemakers if they attempted to escape offworld.

At Rowan's urging, the Freemakers and Quarrie made the decision to lure M-OC into a trap. After baiting M-OC, the Freemakers employed a large tractor beam projector attached to the StarScavenger to pull the Arrowhead into the upper atmosphere. Both ships were struck by lightning, resulting in a loss of power. Rowan then landed on the Arrowhead and began removing the massive kyber crystal from the Arrowhead's power core.

M-OC engaged Rowan in a lightsaber duel. Rowan managed to retrieve the kyber crystal with the assistance of Roger, who was piloting the Mini Scavenger. Zander then rammed the StarScavenger into the Arrowhead before bailing out with Kordi and Quarrie. Both ships were destroyed in the ensuing explosion, with their wreckage scattered across Shantipole's surface.

Legacy

Despite the destruction of the Arrowhead, its legacy endured. M-OC survived the crash and constructed a mobile starship that incorporated components from the Arrowhead, including the massive kyber crystal and proton suspension housing. He subsequently traveled to the second Death Star to identify a design flaw and safeguard the battle station.

When rebuilding the Freemakers' starship, the StarScavenger, Rowan integrated the starship's Embersteel Blade into the StarScavenger. This allowed the Freemakers to breach the second Death Star during the Battle of Endor. Following the Battle, the Freemakers attempted to depart in the ship, but an Ewok befriended by Roger repeatedly sneaked onboard, despite Roger's efforts to leave him on Endor.

Later, the ship was utilized by the Freemakers during the Battle of Jakku. The Freemakers made a brief landing to repair Lieutenant Colvett Valeria's ship, before taking off again once the repairs were complete.

Behind the scenes

The Arrowhead plays a significant role in the storyline of the second season of LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures, created by Bill Motz and Bob Roth. Ryan Church, a concept artist from Lucasfilm who had previously contributed to the Prequel trilogy, designed the starship. A LEGO set of the Arrowhead was also manufactured to promote the TV series.
