The StarScavenger was a starship in the possession of the Freemakers, a family known for their scavenging activities. This vessel served as their mode of transportation for collecting and moving scrap, as well as traversing the vast expanse of the galaxy. Following Rowan Freemaker's discovery of his Force-sensitive abilities and his subsequent involvement in a quest to locate the Kyber Saber crystals, the StarScavenger was the setting for many exciting events. This pursuit placed the StarScavenger and its crew at odds with various adversaries, including the forces of the Galactic Empire, the Sith agent Naare, the Hutt crime lord Graballa, the infamous gangster Hondo Ohnaka, and the relentless Imperial hunter droid M-OC.

The StarScavenger was a CT-900 freighter that boasted a highly adaptable design. It featured interchangeable wings, a trio of engines, blasters, a pair of spring-loaded projectile launchers, and a cargo section that could be detached. With a capacity to accommodate at least four crew members, the ship was primarily employed for gathering and transporting both scrap materials and components from other starships. Furthermore, the StarScavenger housed additional vehicles, including the smaller salvage craft known as the Mini Scavenger, the submarine Bubbly Subbly, and Zander's Blazemaker Mark II starfighter. The ship was also outfitted with a hyperdrive system, a deflector shield at the rear, and a quantum regulator. Its design allowed for passenger transport and reconfiguration into diverse layouts.
Following the Skirmish on Shantipole, Rowan utilized his unique Force Building abilities to construct a more expansive and elongated version of the StarScavenger. This updated model incorporated a larger charging station specifically for Roger and was armed with embersteel blades powered by the Kyber Saber. These enhancements enabled the ship to penetrate the DS-2 Death Star II Mobile Battle Station's deflector shields during the Battle of Endor.

The StarScavenger's origins can be traced back to a period before the Clone Wars. It served as the dedicated starship for the Freemakers, a family of scavengers who operated a salvage and repair business situated at the Wheel space station within the Abrion system. The ship was instrumental in their endeavors to gather scrap and starship components from across the galaxy. In the aftermath of the Battle of Hoth, the Freemakers deployed the StarScavenger to collect debris amidst a dogfight involving an Imperial assault cruiser, accompanied by its TIE fighter escorts, and Rebel Alliance X-wing starfighters. Zander and Kordi Freemaker used the ship's tractor beam to collect the wreckage, while their younger brother Rowan Freemaker controlled the ship's primary twin turret. Following Rowan's accidental destruction of the assault cruiser, the Freemakers made a swift escape into hyperspace.
Upon returning to their garage, the Freemakers discovered that their Aqualish landlord had used a flood droid to block the entrance as retribution for their overdue rent. Kordi successfully persuaded Furlac to grant them an additional day to settle their debt. After unloading their salvaged materials, the Freemakers found that a rebel pilot and a TIE fighter pilot had survived the battle. Kordi quickly ushered them away when the two adversaries began to fight. Zander and Kordi then attempted to assemble a Z-wing using the salvaged components from the battle. However, Rowan inadvertently caused an explosion by knocking a pole into the head of an AT-ST walker.

To obtain the necessary materials for constructing a starship and paying their rent, the Freemakers, along with their B1-series battle droid Roger, embarked on a journey aboard the StarScavenger to Nal Kapok, a battle site from the Clone Wars. While Zander and Kordi searched for salvage, Roger was assigned the task of supervising Rowan. However, Rowan left the ship to warn his siblings about the presence of stormtroopers. Consequently, Rowan and Roger discovered the hilt of the Kyber Saber and encountered Naare, a Sith agent operating undercover. Naare, posing as a Jedi, convinced Rowan to embark on a quest to gather the fragments of the Kyber Saber. The Freemakers then returned to the Wheel aboard the StarScavenger, with Naare following closely behind in the Eclipse Fighter.
Later on, Zander and Kordi ventured into the Belgaroth asteroid field aboard the StarScavenger to locate Rowan and Roger, who had set out on a quest to find the second Kyber Saber crystal. After docking their ship at the ore mine owned by Graballa, a Hutt crime lord, the Freemakers and Naare traveled on Graballa's starship Rancor's Fist and rescued Rowan and Roger. Following their escape back to their own ship, Rowan apologized to his siblings for his impulsive actions and to Naare for losing the second crystal. Naare nearly destroyed the StarScavenger with a laser blast, but it narrowly missed the ship. She abandoned her attempt when Rowan managed to locate the Kyber Saber crystal in space.
The StarScavenger remained at the Freemaker Garage while Kordi and Rowan went to rescue Zander, who had been captured by the Imperial-class Star Destroyer Vendetta after taking Wick Cooper's N-1 starfighter for an unauthorized flight. Subsequently, the Freemakers utilized the StarScavenger to travel to Cloud City on the planet Bespin to retrieve the "lost treasure" of the rebel Lando Calrissian, which turned out to be a cape. For this particular mission, they opted to leave their cargo bay behind, as they were not undertaking a salvage operation.

The Freemakers later piloted the StarScavenger to Kashyyyk, the homeworld of the Wookiee species, to obtain a piece of wroshyr wood for Ignacio Wortan, a Twi'lek captain. While Roger remained on board the ship, the Freemakers, at the request of the Wookiee chief Attiburra, infiltrated a Trandoshan island fortress and rescued his son Tantarra. At Zander's request, Roger flew the StarScavenger to retrieve the Freemakers and Tantarra. However, the Freemakers and Tantarra became entangled in a quest to find the third Kyber Saber crystal from a Trandoshan statue. Roger parked the ship in a blaze and waited for his family. The Freemakers were confronted by Durpin and Plumestriker, Imperial officers, but managed to escape back to the Wheel thanks to Kordi.
Subsequently, Princess Leia Organa and Luke Skywalker, both members of the rebellion, visited the Freemaker Garage seeking repairs for their Y-wing starfighter. While Rowan and Luke were searching for an ion stabilizer aboard the StarScavenger, Roger inadvertently activated the ship's engines and hyperdrive, causing it to jump into hyperspace. Using the Force, Luke managed to regain control of the ship's hyperdrive lever just as the StarScavenger emerged on hyperspace and crashlanded on the planet Felucia. Rowan and Luke used their Force powers to repair the ship. With the help of the Force and Roger, they also recovered the ship's hyperdrive motivator from a pit inhabited by an acklay. Together, the Freemakers and Luke returned to the Wheel.
After accepting a job offer from Ben Quadinaros, a podracing pilot, to service his podracer on Tatooine, the Freemakers journeyed there aboard the StraScavenger. After narrowly avoiding a trap set by Graballa and participating in the 29th Annual Bricklayers' Classic, the Freemakers fled into the Dune Sea. Unable to reach their ship, they contacted Naare for assistance. After Naare rescued them, they returned to the StarScavenger.

Following the events on Tatooine, the Freemakers learned of Naare's true identity as a Sith and prepared to escape aboard the StarScavenger. After a confrontation in the Freemaker Garage, the Freemakers fled on their ship into space. Naare pursued them in the Eclipse Fighter and damaged their rear deflector shield. After clipping off the Eclipse Fighter's wings, Zander took the StarScavenger into hyperspace. After losing their quantum regulator, they were forced to land at Maz Kanata's castle on Takodana. While landing, Zander accidentally scratched the ship of Hondo Ohnaka, a Weequay pirate.
To compensate for the damage, Kordi and her siblings agreed to leave the StarScavenger as collateral while they traveled on the Mini Scavenger to the Third moon of Takodana to retrieve three golden orbs. There, they discovered that the orbs were varactyl eggs. After confronting Hondo, an impressed Max Kanata gave them a quantum regulator. She also gave Rowan the fourth Kyber Saber crystal and told him to turn to the Maker of Zoh for help. Before they could leave, Naare arrived with Graballa and stole the fourth crystal. The StarScavenger pursued Naare's ship but came under attack from Graballa's Rancor's Fist. The Freemakers managed to flee into hyperspace.
At the urging of Rowan, the Freemakers traveled to the planets Ningoth and Naboo to obtain the fifth and sixth Kyber Saber crystals from Naare. However, Naare stole those crystals well. After leavin Naboo, the Freemakers discovered that the seventh crystal was on the planet Hoth and that Naare had been using Roger's transmission pack to track them down. The Freemakers then landed the StarScavenger on the junkyard planet of Zoh. There, they encountered Jek-14, who taught Rowan in the ways of the Force. After Roger and the Freemakers contended with several mutinous droids led by N-3RO, they fled Zoh on their starship just as Graballa and Naare atttacked the planet. Rowan then challenged Naare and Graballa to race their ship to Hoth for the last Kyber crystal.
Despite the stormy atmosphere, Rowan managed to use the Force to guide the Freemakers through the snow storm. The StarScavenger narrowly avoided colliding with a mountain but their pursuers were not so lucky. While the Freemakers went to search for the seventh Kyber Saber crystal in a cave, Roger stayed behind to guard the ship. While trying to warm the ship, he overheated the StarScavenger's engines. This caused the ship and Roger to fall into an ice lake. Roger managed to escape but the ship was trapped beneath the ice lake. The StarScavenger was only hit when the Freemakers shot down Graballa's Rancor's Fist; causing it to crash into the lake and free the StarScavenger. After Rowan tricked Naare by offering an ice shard, the Freemakers fled with the real crystal into hyperspace. Unwilling to endanger his family, Rowan departed with Roger and the seventh crystal for an uncharted world.

Zander and Kordi, deeply concerned for their younger sibling, embarked on a journey spanning Naboo, Cloud City, Kashyyyk, and Tatooine, all in the hopes of locating him. Following the theft of their equipment by Jawas on Tatooine, the Freemakers made the decision to head back to the Freemaker Garage. Upon landing the StarScavenger, they were met by Furlac, who insisted on receiving rent payment. Subsequently, Naare, Graballa, and his subordinates launched a surprise attack on the Freemakers. Naare, in an attempt to coerce Rowan out of hiding, subjected Kordi and Zander to psychological torture. To further provoke him, she damaged the StarScavenger and forcibly removed its cannons. This tactic proved effective, prompting Rowan, within Roger, to emerge and fight Naare. Despite the Freemakers' valiant efforts, Naare discovered Roger's knowledge of the seventh Kyber Saber crystal's location and proceeded to steal his head.
Harnessing his Force abilities, Rowan repaired the damaged StarScavenger. Subsequently, the Freemakers traveled to the galactic capital of Coruscant, executing Rowan's scheme to seize the Kyber Saber from Naare by impersonating Emperor Palpatine. After successfully infiltrating the Imperial Palace and retrieving Roger's head, Kordi and Zander made their way back to the StarScavenger. When Naare callously threw several civilians from a platform, Kordi and Zander utilized the StarScavenger to rescue them. Later on, the two siblings employed the StarScavenger to extract Rowan and the stolen Kyber Saber from the Imperial Palace.
The Freemakers then engaged in a high-speed chase through Coruscant's skylanes, pursued by TIE fighters. As Zander employed the Blazemaker Mark II to divert the Imperials, Rowan manipulated the Force to alter the StarScavenger's configuration, enabling their escape into space. Once in the vastness of space, the Freemakers journeyed to Sullust, where Rowan plunged the Kyber Saber into a volcano, resulting in its destruction. The Freemakers then resolved not to return to the Wheel, opting instead to traverse the galaxy. Later on, the StarScavenger encountered the Alliance Fleet and accepted an invitation from Admiral Acbkar to become part of the Rebel Alliance.
Following the establishment of communication with Admiral Ackbar, the Freemakers piloted the StarScavenger aboard the MC80A Home One Type Heavy Star Cruiser Home One, which functioned as Admiral Ackbar's command ship. Subsequently, the Freemakers utilized the StarScavenger to embark on a mission aimed at acquiring a Type A vector coil for Lieutenant Colvett Valeria's U-wing. Throughout the course of this mission, the Freemakers journeyed to various planets, including Bespin, Kashyyyk, and Tatooine. Kordi skillfully bartered a variety of items until they successfully obtained a Type A vector coil from a group of Jawas. After their return to the Home One, Admiral Ackbar enlisted the Freemakers to provide maintenance for the Alliance Fleet's starfighters.
Following a Skirmish with an Imperial Star Destroyer, the StarScavenger ventured into space to retrieve Roger. While constructing a buffer, Roger inadvertently altered the course of the battle by launching himself into space and destroying the Star Destroyer's deflector shield generator.
Subsequently, the Freemakers embarked on a mission aboard the StarScavenger to rescue Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca, whose ship, the Millennium Falcon, was stranded on a planet due to a malfunctioning fuel intermixer. The StarScavenger was boarded by Durpin and Plumestriker's Gozanti-class cruiser. The Freemakers attempted to deceive the Imperials by feigning symptoms of Gamorrean flu, but Plumestriker remained unconvinced. With Roger's assistance, the Freemakers escaped the brig, stole the Imperial cruiser's fuel intermixer, and departed on the StarScavenger. They then rendezvoused with Lando and Chewbacca, returning to the Home One aboard their respective ships.
Later, the Freemakers traveled on the StarScavenger with the Mon Calamari starship builder Quarrie to Tibalt on a mission to salvage supplies for the Rebel Alliance. Quarrie expressed astonishment that the CT-900 freighter was still operational but voiced his disapproval of Zander's modifications. The StarScavenger sustained damage to one of its engines during a skirmish with the Imperial hunter droid M-OC. Following a duel between Rowan and M-OC, the Freemakers and Quarrie successfully escaped back to Home One aboard the StarScavenger.
During their quest to construct the Arrowhead, Rowan, accompanied by Roger and Quarrie, once took the StarScavenger on an errant trip to explore the ancient Force Builders city of Alistan Nor. Rowan demonstrated clumsy piloting skills during the expedition, resulting in collisions with several starships both during takeoff and upon their return to the Home One. The Freemakers subsequently utilized the StarScavenger to travel to Mygeeto during a mission aimed at acquiring embersteel wings from an Imperial auction. Rowan and Roger later piloted the StarScavenger in pursuit of Graballa's Rancor's Fist after the Hutt crime lord abducted their sister, Kordi. Following Kordi's rescue, Rowan, Roger, and Zander returned to the Home One on the StarScavenger, while Kordi piloted their newly acquired Theta-class H-2 executive star shuttle. The shuttle's embersteel wings were utilized in the construction of the Arrowhead's embersteel blade.
Subsequently, the Freemakers piloted the StarScavenger during a mission to rescue the Alliance agent Bren Derlin from a junk field situated near the acidic world of Taul. En route, the Freemakers made a stop at Maz Kanata's castle on Takodana to gather information on how to obtain a proton suspension housing for the Arrowhead's Kyber crystal. The Freemakers were joined by the pirate Hondo Ohnaka, who persuaded them to provide him with passage offworld in exchange for guiding them to a Corellian Defender on Taul. The StarScavenger's hull sustained some damage due to the acidic rain, but Kordi successfully activated the ship's deflector shield. The Freemakers managed to recover the proton suspension housing, but Hondo stole the ship. Roger disarmed Hondo, confining him inside a box. Roger then retrieved the Freemakers, who had once again evaded the Imperial hunter droid M-OC. After rescuing Bren from his escape pod, the Freemakers handed Hondo over to the bounty hunter Awan Zek.
The Freemakers utilized the StarScavenger to travel to the Wheel in order to obtain an energy matrix activator from their former residence. Following the mission, the Freemakers returned to the Alliance fleet aboard the StarScavenger.
Subsequently, the Freemakers utilized the StarScavenger to traveled to the planet Qalydon in search of a kyber crystal for the Arrowhead. When the Imperial officers Durpin and Plumestriker attacked the local Lurmen villagers and stole their kyber crystal necklaces, Rowan and the Lurmen Chief Biz's daughter Maynar utilized the StarScavenger's guns to drive away the Imperials. When the Imperials escaped offworld with the crystals, the Freemakers used the StarScavenger to pursue them to the Marriten system, where they recovered them at lightsaber point.
While traversing through space, the StarScavenger came under attack by the Imperial hunter droid M-OC. Rowan managed to employ his Force powers to guide the starship to a planet abundant in kyber crystals. Upon exiting hyperspace, the StarScavenger crash-landed on the planet. While Rowan and Kordi embarked on a search for a large kyber crystal, Zander and Roger attempted to repair the ship. They were harassed by mynocks until Roger managed to distract them by flying with a jetpack. Zander successfully repaired the ship's systems. After Rowan and Kordi returned with the ship's stabilizer fin and a large kyber crystal, they picked up Roger and proceeded to rejoin the rebel fleet.
The Freemakers journeyed back to the rebel fleet aboard the StarScavenger. They discovered the rebel fleet under attack from Imperial forces. The StarScavenger successfully evaded enemy fire and returned to the Home One but was compelled to unload its cargo of salvage. While Rowan traveled with Valeria and Quarrie aboard the Arrowhead, Zander flew the StarScavenger with Zander and Roger. Together, they traveled to the planet Jakku, where Rowan and Quarrie managed to assemble the Arrowhead despite encountering difficulties from Durpin and Plumestriker. The StarScavenger and the fully operational Arrowhead returned to the rebel fleet, where the Arrowhead compelled the Imperial fleet to retreat. Kordi also managed to utilize the StarScavenger to gather salvage following the battle.
Responding to a distress signal from "Maynar", Rowan and Roger journeyed to Qalydon aboard the StarScavenger. The two discovered an Imperial facility. While Roger overpowered the stormtroopers and remained on guard, Rowan entered the facility only to encounter M-OC, who was impersonating Maynar. Rowan was subsequently captured by M-OC's rival Darth Vader, the Emperor's second in command. A damaged Roger brought the StarScavenger back to the Home One. Roger crash-landed the ship in the Home One's hangar, resulting in the destruction of an A-wing. However, the ship did not sustain serious damage, and Roger managed to warn Zander and Kordi that Rowan had been kidnapped by Lord Vader.
Quarrie utilized the StarScavenger to rescue the Freemakers from M-OC, who was piloting the hijacked Arrowhead, in the Coruscant system. However, M-OC managed to plant an XX-23 S-thread tracker on the StarScavenger, enabling him to track them through hyperspace into an asteroid field. The Freemakers and Quarrie then fled to Shantipole, where they lured M-OC into a trap on the stormy planet.
The StarScavenger met its end when Zander sent the ship on a collision course with the Arrowhead. Though both ships were destroyed, M-OC survived. After Rowan inadvertently convinced him that the second Death Star had a design flaw, the hunter droid used the StarScavenger's main engines and other assorted parts from both ships, including the Arrowhead's proton suspension housing and kyber crystal, to build a hyperspace ring to escape Shantipole.
However, Rowan, undeterred and recalling Jek-14's lesson about envisioning what he was building, utilized the remaining pieces from both ships to rebuild the StarScavenger. They first took the new ship to Sullust to rendevous with the Alliance fleet only to find they had left. The Freemakers then traveled to Mustafar when Rowan retrieved the shards of the Kyber Saber. Finally, the Freemakers traveled on the StarScavenger to Endor where they assisted rebel forces. During the Battle of Endor, the Freemakers used the StarScavenger's new embersteel blade to cut through the second Death Star's shield and board the station.
The Starscavenger is featured in the 2016–2017 Disney XD animated television series LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures. LEGO also introduced a promotional LEGO box set of the starship to coincide with the television series. The ship was initially identified as a CT-900 freighter in the Season Two episode "Trouble on Tibalt."
