In the year 4 ABY, the Freemaker family undertook a quest to the Wheel. Their goal was to secure an energy matrix activator, a crucial component for constructing the Arrowhead. Rowan Freemaker envisioned this powerful warship as a means to overcome the forces of the Galactic Empire. Despite facing obstacles such as Ranat criminals, Graballa accompanied by his collection of bounty hunters, and the ever-present threat of the Galactic Empire itself, the Freemakers successfully acquired the activator and made their escape from the Wheel.
Motivated by a Force vision that urged him to create a formidable vessel known as the Arrowhead, capable of shifting the balance in the Galactic Civil War, Rowan Freemaker and his relatives began a journey to gather all the necessary parts for its construction.
Having already secured the proton suspension housing, Rowan set his sights on obtaining an energy matrix activator. While Quarrie considered these devices to be exceptionally rare, Zander Freemaker, Rowan's older sibling, reminded him that they possessed one at their former business, Freemaker Salvage and Repair, located on the Wheel.
Simultaneously, Graballa the Hutt, failing to procure kyber crystals for the Galactic Empire, decided to profit by collecting the bounty on Rowan. He hoped this would earn him money and restore his standing with Darth Vader.
The Freemakers journeyed to the Wheel aboard their ship, the StarScavenger. Upon landing in the Lower Ring, Kordi Freemaker devised a strategy to use the turbolift system and ventilation shafts to gain access to their old residence and workshop. The B1 battle droid Roger was assigned the task of hacking into the guidance system to navigate them to their former garage.
With Roger's assistance, the Freemakers utilized a turbolift and the ventilation system to reach their old home. They soon discovered that Wick Cooper, a previous customer, had taken over the property and transformed it into a bar called "Wick Cooper's Caffeine and Kitsch Club." To minimize the risk of detection, the Freemakers planned to infiltrate Wick Cooper's establishment during the night to retrieve the energy matrix activator, which had been repurposed as a caf machine.
However, the Freemakers' operation was complicated by an unexpected issue. Roger had angered a group of Ranats, one of whom had tried to steal his electronic pad. These Ranats attacked Roger, preventing him from aiding the Freemakers in entering their former garage. The Freemakers managed to gain entry by pretending to be repair technicians from "Midnight Cafeteria Services."
Despite overcoming this initial challenge, the Freemakers were recognized by their former Aqualish landlord, Furlac, who, seeking a reward, informed Graballa of their presence. Graballa quickly arrived with his team of bounty hunters, including Dengar, Zuckuss, 4-LOM, Bossk, and IG-88, and captured the Freemakers. Graballa then contacted Lord Vader, informing him of Rowan's capture and suggesting that Rowan could assist in locating kyber crystals.
The Freemakers found themselves imprisoned within a force field. Rowan attempted to use a Jedi mind trick on the bounty hunters, but his efforts were unsuccessful. However, Kordi cleverly turned the droid bounty hunters IG-88 and 4-LOM against their organic counterparts by falsely claiming that the organics were receiving higher pay. Amidst the ensuing conflict between the bounty hunters, the Freemakers managed to escape using a repulsorlift vehicle.
The Freemakers sped away on their bike into the marketplace. Despite being pursued by the bounty hunters, they managed to evade them after completing two circuits. Rowan then conceived a plan to infiltrate their former garage by donning Imperial armor stolen from a nearby Imperial depot. Disguised as stormtroopers, the Freemakers successfully entered their former garage, where they found a humiliated Graballa struggling to explain his actions to Lord Vader.
With Vader and Graballa distracted, the Freemakers quietly retrieved the energy matrix activator and slipped away. However, their plan to escape via a lift was disrupted when Vader entered the lift and ascended to the Upper Ring. Meanwhile, Roger managed to escape the Ranats by causing them to slip on motor oil. Regaining control of his datapad, he discovered that the Freemakers were on the Upper Ring with Lord Vader.
Roger rescued the Freemakers by activating a trapdoor that led back to the lower levels. After Lord Vader departed aboard his 'Executor-class Star Dreadnought Executor, the Freemakers left the Wheel with the energy matrix activator in their possession.
Upon returning to the Rebel Alliance, Kordi informed Admiral Ackbar about their successful acquisition of the energy matrix activator. The Freemakers then embarked on their subsequent mission to procure a substantial kyber crystal for the Arrowhead.
The mission to secure an energy matrix activator was initially featured in the LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures Season Two episode "Return to the Wheel," which was first broadcast on August 3, 2017.
