The Curio Box that belonged to Maz was constructed from wroshyr wood.
Wroshyr wood was a specific type of wood that was harvested from the wroshyr trees native to the planet Kashyyyk. This material was suitable for building Auzituck anti-slaver gunships, as well as weapons favored by the Wookiees. During the events of the Siege of Lasan, Wookiee soldiers, fighting alongside the Lasats against the forces of the Empire, wielded weapons crafted from wroshyr wood. The curio box owned by Maz Kanata was assembled using ancient wroshyr wood planks. Lina Soh, the Chancellor of the Republic, had a desk made of wroshyr-wood on her flagship, the Coruscant Dawn.
The concept of wroshyr wood was initially introduced in Timothy Zahn's Star Wars Legends novel Heir to the Empire, published in 1991. Its initial appearance in the current canon occurred in Michael Kogge's young reader novel The Rebellion Begins from 2014.
Wroshyr wood was also showcased in the non-canon animated series LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures within the episode titled "Peril on Kashyyyk." In this episode, the Freemakers, a family of scavengers, are tasked with rescuing Chief Attiburra's son, Tantarra, to acquire a piece of wroshyr wood. This wood is needed by Kordi Freemaker to settle their outstanding debts and overdue rent.
