Between the years of 3 ABY and 4 ABY, the forces of the Rebel Alliance mounted an attack against an Imperial _Gozanti_-class cruiser, which was being protected by a squadron of TIE fighters. A family of scavengers known as the Freemakers subsequently collected debris from this engagement using their starship, the StarScavenger. During the heat of battle, Rowan Freemaker inadvertently caused the destruction of the Gozanti cruiser. The Freemakers, seeking to avoid unwanted attention, made a hasty retreat into hyperspace.
During the time of the Galactic Civil War, the Freemakers were a family unit of scavengers that ran a business that focused on ship repair and salvage, known as Freemaker Salvage and Repair. They also possessed a CT-900 freighter, which they called the StarScavenger, and it was used on multiple salvage operations. The Freemakers generally avoided getting involved in the ongoing conflict between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance.
Kordi Freemaker, facing an inability to pay their rent, managed to persuade her older sibling Zander Freemaker to embark on a perilous salvage mission amidst a battle between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance. Their younger sibling, Rowan Freemaker, was assigned the task of manning the ship's gun turret, but was explicitly told not to engage in firing. During the engagement, Rowan accidentally discharged the StarScavenger's gun turret, resulting in the destruction of the Imperial Gozanti-class cruiser. This incident triggered alarm among both the Imperial and rebel pilots. To prevent further attention, Zander piloted the StarScavenger back to the Freemakers' garage, which was located in the Wheel space station.
Upon their return to the Wheel, the Freemakers discovered that the entrance to their garage was obstructed by one of Furlac's flood droids; Furlac being their Aqualish landlord. When Furlac demanded the overdue rent, Kordi successfully convinced him to grant them a one-day extension. Following this, the Freemakers attempted to construct a Z-wing using the salvaged wreckage they had acquired. However, Rowan inadvertently detonated it using the head of an AT-ST walker. Consequently, the Freemakers initiated another salvage run to the planet Nal Kapok alongside their B1-series battle droid, Roger, with the aim of obtaining additional scrap metal. During this operation, Rowan encountered Naare, a false "Jedi", and became entangled in a quest to locate the Kyber Saber.
The initial appearance of the Assault on an Imperial Assault Carrier was in the LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures Season One episode titled "A Hero Discovered," which was originally broadcast on Disney XD on June 20, 2016.
