In the year 3 ABY, a family of scavengers, known as the Freemakers, embarked on a quest to Nal Kapok. The purpose of this trip was to acquire materials for constructing additional Z-wings. This salvage operation happened at the same time as the Sith Naare was searching for the legendary Kyber Saber. By feigning the identity of a Jedi, Naare gained the friendship of Rowan Freemaker along with his B1-series battle droid companion, Roger. Upon realizing Rowan's Force-sensitive nature, she persuaded him to assist in locating the Kyber Saber fragments, promising Jedi training in return. To solidify Rowan's faith in her, Naare rescued his elder siblings, Zander and Kordi Freemaker, from an Imperial patrol. Subsequently, Naare accompanied the Freemakers back to the Wheel space station, where she informed Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader about her revised strategy to retrieve the components of the Kyber Saber, utilizing Rowan's abilities.
During the era of the Galactic Civil War, the [Freemakers](/article/freemakers/lego], a family of scavengers, earned their livelihood by collecting discarded materials and assembling them into starships referred to as Z-wings. Their base of operations was a garage located at the Wheel space station within the Abrion system. In the aftermath of the Battle of Hoth, the Freemakers managed to gather sufficient wreckage from a space engagement involving the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance to construct a starship. This endeavor was driven by the Freemakers' need to settle their rent obligations with their Aqualish landlord, Furlac.
However, Rowan Freemaker, the youngest of the family, inadvertently caused the destruction of the newly built ship while tinkering with the head of an AT-ST walker. Consequently, the Freemakers set out for the jungle moon of Nal Kapok in search of salvage and discarded items. This location had previously served as a battleground during the Clone Wars. While Zander and Kordi Freemaker embarked on their salvage hunt, they entrusted Rowan to the care of the B1-series battle droid Roger aboard their starship, the StarScavenger.
Simultaneously, their journey to Nal Kapok coincided with Emperor Palpatine's endeavor to locate the Kyber Saber. Seeking an alternative to the second Death Star, Palpatine dispatched his Sith apprentice, Naare, with the mission of recovering the Kyber Saber's fragments. The Kyber Saber held historical significance as the first lightsaber ever created, crafted by Jedi Master Baird Kantoo before the establishment of the Old Republic. Kantoo, recognizing the potential danger it posed to the galaxy, shattered the blade into multiple pieces.
The Force led the Force-sensitive Rowan to a subterranean, water-filled cave. There, he discovered the hilt of the Kyber Saber. Subsequently, he and Roger were attacked by a dianoga. Naare intervened, rescuing them and using her blue lightsaber to subdue the creature. Presenting herself as a Jedi, Naare befriended Rowan, sharing the history of the Kyber Saber with him. She cautioned him about the Emperor's desire to acquire the Kyber Saber for his own purposes. Meanwhile, Kordi and Zander were captured by Imperial stormtroopers and an Imperial officer while attempting to salvage a functional Imperial Troop Transport.
Rowan, Roger, and Naare soon became aware of the capture of the elder Freemakers. To earn Rowan's confidence, Naare assisted him in confronting the stormtroopers. Rowan managed to engage the troopers and their transport using an outdated AT-TE walker. However, the walker soon malfunctioned, and the stormtroopers surrounded Rowan. Naare once again came to his aid, utilizing her lightsaber to repel the attackers. Her display of lightsaber skills impressed the young Rowan and helped establish a connection with the Freemakers.
Following the skirmish on Nal Kapok, the Freemakers, accompanied by Naare, returned to the Wheel. At the Freemaker Garage, Naare persuaded Rowan to allow her to train him in the ways of the Jedi, with the goal of bringing peace to the galaxy. Recognizing Rowan's unique ability to sense Kyber crystals, Naare convinced him to assist her in locating them before the Emperor could. While Zander was captivated by her, Kordi remained skeptical until Naare employed a mind trick to convince the demanding Furlac that the Freemakers had settled their rent.
Naare leased the shop across the street, using it as her operational base. In secret, she contacted the Emperor and Darth Vader. Although the Sith were initially displeased by her attack on Imperial personnel, they were appeased when Naare assured them that she could leverage Rowan's abilities to locate the Kyber Saber crystals.
The Mission to Nal Kapok was initially featured in the LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures Season One episode titled "A Hero Discovered," which debuted on Disney XD on June 20, 2016.
