In the year 4 ABY, combat in the vastness of space erupted between the forces of the Alliance to Restore the Republic and the opposing forces of the Galactic Empire. The command ship of the Rebel Alliance, known as Home One, came under attack from a massive Imperial Star Destroyer. Roger, a B1-series battle droid, inadvertently shifted the battle's momentum in favor of the rebels. This occurred when he accidentally launched himself into the void of space, disabling the Star Destroyer's deflector shield generator. With its shields down, the Home One was able to obliterate the Imperial Star Destroyer.
Admiral Ackbar, having acquired a Type A vector coil, made the decision to enlist the services of the Freemakers, a family known for their scavenging abilities. Prior to this, the Freemakers had drawn the ire of the Emperor when Rowan Freemaker absconded with and subsequently destroyed the Kyber Saber, considered to be the most formidable weapon in the galaxy. Their assigned task was to maintain and repair the starfighters belonging to the Alliance Fleet's. Following Roger's failed attempt to gain the favor of the Rebel Alliance droids, he resolved to construct a device to win them over.
While Roger was in the process of building his device, an Imperial Star Destroyer, accompanied by its squadron of TIE fighters, launched an assault on the Alliance fleet. The Alliance responded by deploying a number of starfighters under the command of Lieutenant Valeria, but they were unable to penetrate the Star Destroyer's protective deflector shield. Consequently, the Freemakers were summoned to expedite the preparation of additional starfighters. Unaware of the ongoing battle, Roger commandeered various spare components, including power cells and engines. He also caused an accidental explosion when he inadvertently threw a piece of equipment into a B-wing, resulting in its destruction.
Subsequently, Roger tested his device, which resulted in him being accidentally launched into space. He collided with the Star Destroyer's deflector shield generator, thereby changing the course of the battle. In response, Admiral Ackbar issued orders for his forces to focus their fire on the Star Destroyer, leading to its destruction.
After the brief engagement, Roger was rescued by the StarScavenger. He was then presented with a medal by Admiral Ackbar in front of the other Freemakers and members of the rebellion. Roger also managed to persuade Chopper, a C1-series astromech droid, to keep the incident a secret. He and Chopper then tested the buffer a second time but forgot to refine the machine and were flung out into space.
The confrontation involving an Imperial Star Destroyer forms the central plot element of the LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures Season Two short animated film titled "Thrown Into Battle," which was released on the LEGO Star Wars website on May 4, 2017.
