In 4 ABY, the Freemaker family embarked on a quest to retrieve Kyber crystals originating from the world of Qalydon. Their journey led them to a Lurmen settlement, where they forged bonds with the local inhabitants. Imperial forces, commanded by Durpin and Plumestriker, seized the villagers' kyber crystals. Despite facing opposition from the M-OC droid, the Freemakers successfully reclaimed the Lurmen's precious crystals.
Following a Force vision that revealed the construction of a powerful vessel known as THE Arrowhead capable of shifting the balance in the Galactic Civil War, Rowan Freemaker set out on a mission to assemble the starship. He was joined by his older brother Zander, sister Kordi, and their B1-series battle droid butler, Roger.
Having acquired an energy matrix activator, Rowan decided to secure a bantha-sized kyber crystal to provide power to the Arrowhead. To aid Rowan's endeavor, Kordi and the astromech droid BG-81 purloined Imperial intelligence regarding planets abundant in kyber crystals. Although Kordi had planned to substitute the file with a fabricated rebel scheme, Roger inadvertently supplied a file detailing the preparation of an Ugnaught bean casserole. Consequently, the Imperial hunter droid M-OC was able to locate them.
Based on the acquired information, the Freemakers identified five planets where the Empire was not currently extracting kyber crystals. Rowan opted to visit Qalydon, the home of a Lurmen community. Initially, the villagers displayed hostility towards the Freemakers, believing they were procuring kyber crystals for the Galactic Empire. Kordi managed to pacify the villagers, including their leader Biz, preventing any escalation of conflict.
Later that evening, Biz explained that his people had resided on Qalydon for generations, revering the Force through the kyber crystal necklaces they wore. The Freemakers discovered that these necklaces were the only crystals possessed by the Lurmen villagers. Rowan also struck up a friendship with Biz's daughter, Maynar, who dismissed the Force as a myth and struggled to comprehend her father's deep respect for the crystals.
Subsequently, the Imperial officers Durpin and Plumestriker arrived aboard a Gozanti-class cruiser, accompanied by numerous stormtroopers. They terrorized the villagers and confiscated their kyber crystal necklaces. Rowan and Maynar managed to secretly board the Freemakers' starship, the StarScavenger, and forced the Imperials to retreat aboard the Gozanti-class cruiser with the stolen crystals.
Rowan successfully damaged the cruiser's rear stabilizer and hyperdrive, causing it to crash in the nearby mountains. Distressed by the theft of their crystals, the Freemakers pledged to assist the villagers in recovering their kyber crystal necklaces. Kordi, Zander, and Rowan departed in a commandeered Imperial vehicle. While Kordi and Zander impersonated Imperial technicians, Rowan concealed himself behind the hyperdrive unit. Meanwhile, Roger remained behind to assist the villagers in repairing their damaged settlement.
Disguised as technicians, Zander and Kordi successfully diverted Plumestriker and Durpin by attending to repairs on the ship. Simultaneously, Rowan infiltrated the cruiser and located the stolen kyber crystals within a secure vault. He was surprised by Maynar, who had secretly boarded the Freemakers' vehicle. Rowan and Maynar managed to slip out of the Gozanti-class cruiser, only to encounter M-OC, who had been tracking the Freemakers.
Zander attacked M-OC with the vehicle but was unable to subdue the droid, which possessed the ability to self-repair. Maynar managed to escape with the crystals but was spotted by Durpin and Plumestriker, who gave chase. Rowan engaged M-OC in a duel with his lightsaber but was unable to defeat the droid despite utilizing his Force abilities. Rowan then employed his Force powers to bury M-OC's chassis under upgrades and debris, temporarily immobilizing the droid.
In the meantime, Maynar was cornered by Plumestriker and Durpin near some boulders but managed to evade them with the assistance of Kordi and Zander. She reunited with Rowan, but the two were ambushed by Plumestriker and Durpin, who escaped with the crystals aboard their newly repaired Gozanti-class cruiser. Thanks to Zander's repairs to the hyperdrive, the Imperials were able to flee into hyperspace.
However, Rowan utilized his Force abilities to pinpoint the Imperial cruiser's location in the Marriten system. The Freemakers pursued the Gozanti cruiser and disabled its rear engines. Rowan and his siblings recovered the crystals at lightsaber point.
The Freemakers, along with Maynar, returned to the Lurmen village with the crystals. Chief Biz expressed his gratitude to the Freemakers for recovering his people's crystals and rescuing his daughter. As a token of appreciation, he offered them the crystals, but the Freemakers declined, as Rowan was unwilling to deprive the Lurmen of their precious artifacts.
M-OC managed to free himself from the wreckage and resumed his pursuit of the Freemakers. Meanwhile, Plumestriker and Durpin were demoted by the Empire for their failure and reassigned to a remote outpost on the planet Jakku.
The Mission to Qalydon was first presented in the LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures Season Two episode "The Lost Crystals of Qalydon," which premiered on August 7, 2017 on Disney XD.
