In the year 4 ABY, the Freemaker family embarked on a quest to retrieve a Kyber crystal from the planet belonging to Baird Kantoo.
During the time of the Galactic Civil War, Rowan Freemaker, along with his relatives, began a journey to construct the Arrowhead, a spacecraft they were convinced could shift the balance of power in the war. As a component of this journey, the Freemakers journeyed to the world of Qalydon in search of kyber crystals to energize the Arrowhead. Choosing not to seize the kyber crystals belonging to the Lurmen inhabitants, the Freemakers pressed onward in their kyber crystal search.
Continuing their search, Rowan Freemaker employed the Force to locate a planet abundant in kyber crystals. Even while being pursued by the Galactic Empire's hunter droid M-OC, Rowan successfully piloted the StarScavenger to a group of coordinates in the Outer Rim Territories that were situated twelve parsecs beyond the planet Terminus. M-OC was compelled to halt his pursuit after Emperor Palpatine recalled him to Coruscant for a reprimand.
Upon exiting hyperspace, the StarScavenger suffered a crash landing on an undiscovered planet completely covered in kyber crystals. During the descent, the StarScavenger lost its stabilizer fin and also sustained damage to its hull. Zander Freemaker and Roger remained behind to fix the damaged ship, while Rowan and his elder sister Kordi Freemaker set out to explore the planet.
In the meantime, Rowan and Kordi explored a nearby cavern adorned with murals and inscriptions. Recognizing it as a temple, Rowan deduced that kyber crystals lay within. Unable to locate any stairs, Rowan understood that he must utilize the Force to elevate the floor, as indicated by the inscription stating that "the key to unlocking the mysteries before you is to turn to the Force."
Rowan and Kordi arrived at a chamber featuring an opening in the ceiling. After deciphering the inscription "that the Force builds and lifts us all," Rowan attempted to employ the Force to raise the rocks and debris into a makeshift staircase. However, these efforts proved unsuccessful. Upon rereading the inscription, Rowan utilized the Force to construct a platform for himself and Kordi, then employed the kyber crystals below to propel them to the summit.
Rowan and Kordi reached the summit, only to find a towering structure in the distance, separated by a vast chasm. Assuming the crystals resided at the peak, Rowan employed the Force to levitate three stony treads and methodically reassemble them to reach the tower's apex. There, he discovered a holocron belonging to Jedi Master Baird Kantoo, the creator of the Kyber Saber many years prior.
Judging Rowan worthy of learning the secret of constructing with kyber crystals, the hologram revealed that the necessary crystals were located in the pit below. Master Kantoo cautioned that the crystals possessed immense power, and a single misstep could lead to dire consequences, gesturing towards the shattered moon above.
Returning to the summit, Rowan informed Kordi that he was tasked with constructing the kyber crystal himself. He expressed concern that the kyber crystal could be a dangerous weapon capable of inflicting significant harm. Kordi advised her younger brother that inaction would result in the Emperor devastating the galaxy. Recalling Master Jek-14's advice that he was a Force Builder, Rowan harnessed the Force to assemble the crystals.
Zander and Roger's repair efforts were complicated by a swarm of mynocks, intent on draining the ship's energy. Zander and Roger attempted to repel the mynocks using the StarScavenger's weaponry, but their actions inadvertently triggered the explosion of tiny kyber crystals in the vicinity, causing the ship to flip upside down.
With the mynocks continuing to drain the StarScavenger's power, Zander devised a plan to equip Roger with a jetpack. Roger flew out to divert the mynocks while Zander completed the repairs to the StarScavenger. Meanwhile, Rowan and Kordi returned with a sizable kyber crystal and the stabilizer fin. After rescuing Roger, the Freemakers set course to rejoin the rebel fleet.
Having acquired the giant kyber crystal, the Freemakers had successfully obtained all the necessary components to complete the construction of the StarScavenger. They returned to the rebel fleet, only to find it under assault by the Imperial Navy. To finalize the installation of the kyber crystal, the Freemakers traveled with Quarrie and Lieutenant Colvett Valeria to the planet Jakku. Despite losing the energy matrix activator and encountering the Imperial officers Durpin and Plumestriker, the Freemakers successfully assembled the Arrowhead.
The mission to secure a Kyber crystal was initially featured in the LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures Season Two episode "The Pit and the Pinnacle," which made its debut on August 9, 2017.
