Barosk

A Human smuggler by the name of Barosk existed during the era of the Galactic Civil War.

Biography

In the year 1 ABY, Barosk's presence was recorded on Tatooine, where he visited a number of the planet's cities. Simultaneously, a bounty hunter known as Tearfin made her way to the same desert planet. The reason for the bounty hunter's arrival was to locate a smuggler responsible for the theft of a valuable equipment crate. Because the crate was equipped with a transponder, she was able to easily track her target to Tatooine. However, the thief discovered the transponder and deactivated it shortly after Tearfin's arrival. Subsequently, the bounty hunter came across Barosk and a group of smugglers, suspecting that one of them was her target, but she couldn't determine the thief's identity. Besides Barosk, the group consisted of five additional smugglers, identified as Parugga, Rh'klin, D'lonis, Klaphini, and Captain Himfan. Tearfin proceeded to interrogate Barosk and the other smugglers, but she was unable to discern who was innocent or guilty, mainly because each of the smugglers placed the blame on the others. Eventually, a spacer who was trying to become a Hero of Tatooine arrived to assist Tearfin. After questioning all of the smugglers, the spacer successfully identified the actual thief. Later, the spacer informed Tearfin and was rewarded with the Mark of Intellect for the successful investigative work.

Behind the scenes

Every possible depictions of Barosk

Barosk functioned as a non-player character (NPC) within the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies. This game was a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game, developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts, before its servers were shut down on December 15, 2011. Since Barosk was generated using the standard "smuggler" template, the NPC's visual appearance was randomly selected from a pool of eight potential character designs.

Barosk was incorporated into the game as a component of the "Hero of Tatooine" questline, which was introduced with "Publish 9" on June 29, 2004. This NPC, along with Tearfin and the other five smugglers, would periodically appear in various cities across Tatooine at random. Players participating in the "Intellect" portion of the "Hero of Tatooine" quest were required to question Barosk and the other smugglers to determine which one was Tearfin's target. The identity of the culprit among the six smugglers changed each time the quest was reset. With the release of "Publish 24," on October 18, 2005, Barosk and the other five smugglers received specific names, replacing their previously randomly generated names.

The "Hero of Tatooine" questline underwent substantial revisions following the implementation of "Publish 25," also known as the "New Game Enhancements," on November 15, 2005, however the "Intellect" section remained unchanged.
