Basalt Forest

The Basalt Forest, located on the planet Koboh, was a unique type of forest. Its unusual geographical features were a significant factor in the Galactic Republic's and Jedi Order's interest in the planet during the High Republic Era, leading them to build one of their research arrays there. Abundant vegetation thrived amidst the enormous and peculiar stone structures. Furthermore, a system of rivers and deep ravines created pathways throughout the forest, offering a perfect habitat for large species like bilemaws to build nests. Smaller creatures, like the rawka, also made their nests in the Basalt Forest, and these forest-dwelling rawka would aggressively protect their nesting sites, incubating their eggs for twelve Koboh moon cycles. The defining characteristic of the Basalt Forest was its colossal basalt pillars, which gave the forest its name and unusual landscape. These pillars, referred to as 'stone sentinels' by scholars, were created by intense seismic events originating deep within Koboh's planetary core. These events forced the fully formed pillars upwards, causing them to break through the surface. The rough, porous texture of these stone formations provided an excellent base for simple organic life to establish itself.
