The Forest Array, a collaborative research installation of the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic, was nestled within the Basalt Forest on the Outer Rim planet of Koboh. The Jedi conducted studies here on the enigmatic Koboh matter and the Koboh Abyss.
During the High Republic Era, the Forest Array functioned as a research station for Jedi and Galactic Republic scientists. Their research focused on the puzzling Koboh matter and the Koboh Abyss. The Basalt Forest was the source of their interest. Following the fall of Jedi Knight Dagan Gera to the dark side of the Force, Master Santari Khri placed her former friend inside a bacta tank located within the Forest Array's rehabilitation sector, where he remained in suspended animation until Cal Kestis, a Jedi Knight, discovered him in 9 BBY.
The Forest Array featured a central rotating device that housed an orb amplifier. Using the Force on a lever above ground activated the intricate underground mechanisms that rotated an ionic beam above, dispersing Koboh dust. Furthermore, the array was surrounded by four auxiliary telescopes that acted as generators, producing highly charged energy currents that simulated interstellar ionic storms.
By 9 BBY, the Forest Array was largely dilapidated and occupied by the Galactic Empire, whose knowledge of the site was limited. The mechanisms hadn't been operated in decades, and local wildlife, including the dangerous mogu, had taken up residence. Koboh dust was scattered across many surfaces, impeding movement, and Koboh matter had accumulated, forming nearly impenetrable barriers across several walkways.
IGN initially revealed the Forest Array in their review of the video game Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
