A significant engagement unfolded at the planet of Corulag in 29 ABY amidst the Yuuzhan Vong War. This conflict resulted in a crucial triumph for the Galactic Alliance, granting the nascent government dominion over an essential hyperspace route leading to the Yuuzhan Vong-occupied Coruscant.
Following a gathering of Galactic Alliance military commanders on the world of Contruum after the Defense of Mon Calamari, General Wedge Antilles led the Alliance's Second Fleet in an endeavor to free the vital Core World of Corulag from Yuuzhan Vong control. In contrast to numerous other New Republic worlds within the Bormea sector that resisted the Yuuzhan Vong, Corulag's leadership capitulated, hoping to circumvent the collateral damage experienced by its neighboring planets. Nevertheless, the vast majority of the world's ten billion inhabitants opposed the Yuuzhan Vong-installed puppet regime. Subsequent to the rescue of Alliance military figure and Corulag native Judder Page, resistance factions on the planet established contact with the Alliance, seeking assistance in an impending uprising against the Yuuzhan Vong occupation. Eager to support a former New Republic world and secure a strategically important planet near Coruscant, Alliance commanders Sien Sovv and Traest Kre'fey authorized the offensive.
Upon the Second Fleet's arrival in the system, the situation on the planet's surface was already underway. Resistance groups and ordinary citizens had already begun targeting their conquerors, launching retaliatory attacks on Yuuzhan Vong soldiers. Intense combat erupted across Corulag, while certain areas of the planet endured orbital bombardment from Yuuzhan Vong warships. The highly skilled fighter groups Blackmoon Squadron and Shocker Squadron assaulted Corulag's main moon, escorting Scimitar assault bombers on missions to obliterate a Yuuzhan Vong base.
In the void of space, Alliance capital ships exchanged volleys with mataloks and other Yuuzhan Vong warships. Several mataloks were destroyed by fire from the Elegos A'Kla and the Mon Mothma, which were focused on protecting the lone yammosk carrier. With the arrival of the Mon Calamari cruiser Harbinger and its added firepower, the yammosk vessel met its end.
As the conflict neared its conclusion, a squadron of TIE fighters seized by the Peace Brigade entered the fray, only to be hunted down by Alliance forces. As the Yuuzhan Vong fleet faced systematic destruction, Forridel, the resistance's designated provisional governor of Corulag, proclaimed complete victory over the Yuuzhan Vong occupation.
Reports surfaced of atrocities committed across Corulag as enraged citizens unleashed their pent-up fury on Yuuzhan Vong and their collaborators. The former governor, a Yuuzhan Vong supporter, was executed by hanging and stoned in a square within the capital city of Curamelle. Despite these events, the strategically vital world was secured for the Galactic Alliance, granting them a crucial waypoint along the Perlemian Trade Route. The victory celebration was brief, as the Second Fleet was immediately redeployed to Coruscant to assist in its liberation.
