Battle of Murkhana (Clone Wars)

During the waning days of the Clone Wars, a significant conflict unfolded on Murkhana. The Grand Army of the Republic launched an offensive on Murkhana, which served as both the headquarters for the Corporate Alliance and the residence of Magistrate Passel Argente.

Background

Following the Confederacy of Independent Systems' retreat to defensive positions after Operation Durge's Lance, the CIS augmented its forces within the Outer Rim Territories. The Republic forces followed, initiating the Outer Rim Sieges. Murkhana was part of the Felucia theater, which contained the Foundry of the Confederacy, and therefore experienced intense combat. Given its crucial role in disseminating Separatist propaganda via the CIS Shadowfeed, the Republic was highly motivated to secure the planet.

As part of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine's strategy to "win the hearts and minds of the Separatists," Republic High Command deliberately delayed the Republic's attack for several weeks, providing Corporate Alliance personnel with an opportunity to surrender. However, the Corporate Alliance instead used this time to saturate the planet with a dense, blaster-resistant, anti-laser aerosol, mirroring a tactic previously employed by Republic forces during the Battle of Paarin Minor.

The Conflict

After a three-week period of engagement, Jedi General Roan Shryne and Clone Commander Salvo, alongside Bol Chatak and her Padawan Olee Starstone, spearheaded an attack on an Alliance landing platform located in Murkhana City. They led a squadron of LAAT/i gunships originating from the Star Destroyer Gallant. The clone troopers engaged in combat with battle droids and tank droids throughout the urban environment. General Shryne, with the assistance of clone commando Climber and his Ion Squad, successfully destroyed the deflector shield generator protecting the landing platform.

However, the platform's collapse coincided with the execution of Order 66, resulting in the deaths of three Jedi on Murkhana. Climber and his squad, however, defied the order concerning Roan, Bol, and Olee, allowing them to escape.

Shortly thereafter, the Galactic Republic was transformed into the Galactic Empire. The Confederacy continued to fight the newly established Empire for Murkhana until the deactivation of the Separatist Droid Army occurred. As a result, all droid units on Murkhana shut down immediately, concluding the battle in the Empire's favor.

The Jedi, in the meantime, had disguised themselves as Corporate Alliance mercenaries. With no droids left to fight, clone stormtroopers focused on rounding up their organic enemies, including the Jedi.

Consequences

The Exactor arrives in orbit of Murkhana a few weeks after the Clone Wars' end.

As a direct result of the battle, the Republic successfully shut down the Shadowfeed, the Separatist's propaganda broadcasting network.

Roan, Bol, and Olee were apprehended on the landing platform, awaiting transportation to the detention facility located on Agon Nine. Darth Vader himself landed in Murkhana City to identify those responsible for aiding the Jedi's escape. Climber confessed to his actions. Bol Chatak then revealed herself as a Jedi and engaged Vader in a lightsaber duel. The Dark Lord decapitated the Zabrak Jedi. Roan and Olee, however, managed to evade boarding the transport and subsequently fled Murkhana aboard a CloakShape fighter. Murkhana then fell under the authority of the newly formed Galactic Empire.
