Battle of Science Station Youst

The clash known as the Battle of Science Station Youst served as one of the initial skirmishes within the broader conflict of the Sepan Civil War. During this engagement, forces belonging to the Ripoblus initiated an offensive against the Dimok facility, specifically Science Station Youst. The intervention of Imperial forces ultimately resulted in the repulsion of the Ripoblus attackers and the subsequent discovery of illicit Dimok weaponry.

Prelude

As a response to a recent Dimok attack on one of their weapons convoys, the Ripoblus orchestrated a retaliatory attack on the Dimok Science Station Youst. The Ripoblus intended to seize a series of containers located near the station for their own purposes. Employing a combination of Modified Corvettes along with Assault Transports, they swiftly breached the station's limited starfighter defenses and commenced firing upon the station itself. Admiral [Harkov], aiming to prevent the conflict from escalating into adjacent systems, chose to intervene to prevent either faction from gaining an advantage. He intended to destroy enough forces to convince the Ripoblus to withdraw.

The Prophets of the Dark Side expressed concern regarding the station's research activities. Seeking to ascertain the nature of their investigations, they dispatched Maarek Stele to conduct an inspection of the station and its containers.

The battle

Precisely as the Dimok defenses were collapsing, the Victory-class Star Destroyer named Protector arrived in the vicinity, deploying a squadron of 3 TIE Fighters and 3 TIE Bombers. Harkov issued an order for the Ripoblus forces to cease their assault, but the Ripoblus replied that Youst is a weapons lab and refused. Maarek Stele, piloting one of the bombers, was initially assigned the task of setting an example for the Ripoblus by destroying one of their Corvettes. However, as the battle unfolded, the Modified Frigate Dromon appeared directly above the Protector and began firing upon it. Stele and his wingmates promptly diverted to defend the Protector. Although the Destroyer's shields sustained considerable damage, its turbolasers and bombers proved overwhelming, resulting in the destruction of the Dromon. After obtaining a reload from a Utility Tug, Stele and the remaining bombers redirected their attention to the assault force. They destroyed a Corvette along with several Assault Transports. The escalating losses forced the Ripoblus to abort their attack and retreat.

Acting under directives from the Prophets of the Dark Side, Stele conducted a scan of the Dimok containers, uncovering illicit weaponry. Subsequently, the Protector deployed two DX-9 stormtrooper transports with orders to seize and confiscate these weapons, placing Science Station Youst under Imperial control. The capture proceeded smoothly, as the platform's shields had been significantly weakened by the preceding Ripoblus assault. Several Dimok Delta-class JV-7 escort shuttles emerged from hyperspace in an attempt to thwart the Imperials' capture of the science station, but their intervention came too late, and they were swiftly eliminated by the Protector's TIEs. Concurrently, a Shuttle identified as Toten, carrying an officer, departed from the Protector and initiated a jump into Hyperspace, heading towards an undisclosed location.

Aftermath

The Battle underscored the Empire's neutrality between the warring factions and its ambition to establish Imperial dominance over the Sepan system. This resulted in an unexpected consequence that Harkov would come to understand in a difficult way at Sepan 8 when he became aware of a meeting between two leaders and would later intercept them.
