In the year 20 BBY, a battle unfolded in space above an astronomical body, amidst the Clone Wars that engulfed the galaxy. This conflict pitted the Galactic Republic against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The engagement commenced when a Separatist fleet, composed of six Recusant-class light destroyers and a flagship Providence-class Dreadnought, materialized from hyperspace. At the location, six Republic Venator-class Star Destroyers belonging to the Open Circle Fleet were already stationed.
Upon the Confederate fleet's arrival from hyperspace, both sides immediately engaged in combat, leading to damage on at least one Venator ship. This Separatist assault took place against a backdrop of concerns that the Confederacy was gearing up for a significant offensive. Motivated by the need to decipher an intercepted transmission that fueled these anxieties, the Republic initiated a secret mission to acquire a Separatist encryption module, hoping it would allow them to decode the message.
