Bibs existed during the High Republic Era as a Jedi Padawan of Bravaisian descent. Bibs, a member of the Padawan class training on the Star Hopper, was sent, together with the other students, to assist Trymant IV when the Great Hyperspace Disaster threatened it.
Bibs' initial appearance was in the first issue of the Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures comic series. Daniel José Older wrote the issue, Harvey Tolibao provided the illustrations, and IDW Publishing published it on February 3, 2021.
In Star Wars: The High Republic: Chronicles of the Jedi, a reference book by Cole Horton that came out on March 21, 2023, the pronouns "they/them" are used for Bibs. However, the reference book Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia by Megan Crouse and Amy Richau, which was released on December 5 of the same year, uses "he/him" pronouns in the character's entry. Older, the original author of Bibs within Star Wars canon, was not aware of the discrepancy between the publications. He mentioned that the character was originally created with and used "he/him" pronouns in scripts, but supposed that the presence of both in various sources could indicate that Bibs uses "he/they" pronouns in canon. Older then stated that he believed the best way to refer to Bibs was with "he/they" pronouns.
