Black Vulkar Base

The Black Vulkar Base, situated in the Lower City, functioned as the central hub for the Black Vulkars, a swoop gang operating on the planet Taris. This base, along with much of Taris, was obliterated in 3956 BBY by a Sith orbital bombardment during the events of the Jedi Civil War.

History

In 3956 BBY, a complex of fortified rooms and levels within the Lower City on the world of Taris served as the headquarters for the infamous Black Vulkars swoop gang. Under the leadership of Brejik, a former member of their rival gang, the Hidden Beks, the Vulkars launched attacks against civilians and opposing gangs from this base. Following the attack on the Endar Spire orbiting Taris, the Black Vulkars captured Bastila Shan, a Jedi survivor, and held her as a slave. Revan, an amnesiac former Jedi and Sith Lord, alongside Carth Onasi, a Republic soldier, both survivors of the battle, embarked on a mission to rescue her, which took them through the Black Vulkar Base. Their goal was to obtain a swoop bike accelerator, essential for winning an upcoming swoop race and securing Bastila's freedom.

Mission Vao, a female Twi'lek, offered her assistance to Revan and Onasi in infiltrating the base, conditional on their help in rescuing her Wookiee friend, Zaalbar, from Gamorrean slavers. After locating Zaalbar in the sewers of the Undercity of Taris, Mission used her skills to bypass a forcefield that would have otherwise blocked Revan's entry, leading them to the Vulkar base's underground entrance, guarded by a rancor. Upon defeating the rancor, the group entered the base, eliminating all Black Vulkar members except for Ada, a slave whom Revan freed. Revan encountered automated turrets guarding the locked elevator leading to the swoop garage. He was able to use codes obtained from a Vulkar who had doubts about gang membership, in exchange for letting him go free. Inside the garage, Kandon Ark, a Black Vulkar, confronted Revan and his companions. He attempted to persuade Revan to assassinate Gadon Thek, the leader of the rival Hidden Beks gang. Revan refused, swiftly killing Kandon, seizing the accelerator, and delivering it to Gadon. Revan then participated in and won the annual swoop race, thus securing Bastila's liberation. Shortly after the race, Taris was subjected to a devastating orbital bombardment by the Sith blockade, resulting in the destruction of any structure exceeding two stories in height, including the Black Vulkar Base.

Layout

One of the maintenance bays in the garage

The Black Vulkar Base consisted of a main floor and a garage area. Access to the base was available through two entrances: one in the Lower City, which remained locked during Revan's visit and could only be opened from within; and a second entrance via an elevator from the Sewers of Taris, which Revan was compelled to use to gain entry. The garage was located beneath the main floor. The garage featured a spacious hangar containing three parked swoop bikes. The lower section of the garage housed four maintenance bays, one of which served as the storage location for the prototype accelerator.

Behind the scenes

The Black Vulkar Base level was initially designed with an additional upper floor, which included a spice laboratory, staff accommodations, and the base's heating control system.
