Bob Cooper held an editorial position relatively early on for Star Wars publications at Dark Horse comics, after they obtained the rights to publish them in the early 1990s.
Cooper served as the editor for Classic Star Wars beginning with issue 8 in April of 1993 and continuing until the series concluded with issue 20 in June of 1994. This title reprinted and reformatted the Star Wars daily newspaper strips into a comic book format. Prior to Cooper, Anina Bennet was the Star Wars editor for Classic Star Wars, and his assistant editor, Peet Janes, took over the role after him.
He also served as the editor for the Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi — The Golden Age of the Sith and The Fall of the Sith Empire comic sub-series. These comics explored the ancient Jedi era, set 5,000 years before the events of A New Hope, acting as prequels to the already successful Tales of the Jedi comics placed 4,000 years before A New Hope. Additionally, he was the editor for the Star Wars: A New Hope - The Special Edition miniseries, which presented a new comic adaptation of the original Star Wars film—the initial adaptation was created by Marvel Comics in 1977. He also edited Star Wars: Empire's End, which concluded the Star Wars: Dark Empire storyline, and Star Wars Droids: The Protocol Offensive. Cooper also edited the comic adaptations of the Thrawn trilogy novels: Heir to the Empire (co-edited with Ryder Windham), Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command (co-edited by Peet Janes). Furthermore, he edited the novel sequel Shadows of the Empire: Evolution alongside Peet Janes. He also worked with Dave Land as co-editor on Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi - Redemption.
