Bolus nut

Bolus nuts were a confection characterized by a sweet taste, a sticky texture, and a crunchy consistency. These treats were sold as readily transportable snacks on wood skewers from various food stands erected across Jedha City during Reflection Eve, as part of the Reflection Day festival on the moon of Jedha. During the year that Zallo Blaak, a traveler, made a visit to Jedha City, these bolus nuts were available during the Reflection Day celebrations, sometime before the destruction of the city in 0 BBY.

Strono Tuggs, an Artiodac chef, included a bolus nut recipe in his second cookbook, The Life Day Cookbook, which followed the publication of his initial cookbook in 34 ABY. Tuggs described these nuts as the most delectable of the foods offered on Jedha during Reflection Day; however, he mentioned his preference for serving them in a bowl instead of on sticks.

Behind the scenes

The initial appearance of bolus nuts was in "Reflection Day," a short story that was featured in the Life Day Treasury, an anthology of short stories penned by George Mann and Cavan Scott, and released on September 7, 2021. A recipe for the nuts, presented from an out-of-universe perspective, was included in the recipe book Star Wars: The Life Day Cookbook, written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak, and published on November 9 of that same year. The recipe utilizes ingredients such as an egg white, almonds, vanilla extract, packed light brown sugar, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt.
