Mon Calamari Council

title: Mon Calamari Council

The governing body of the planet Dac, known by various names including the Mon Calamari Council, Dac Council, or Calamarian Council, consisted of representatives from both the Mon Calamari and Quarren species, each speaking for their respective cities. A notable figure, Gial Ackbar, served as the envoy from Coral City.

History

Following the emergence of the Separatist Movement, Count Dooku paid a visit to Mon Calamari. Impressed by their level of advancement, Dooku extended an invitation for the world to join the Confederacy of Independent Systems, which the Council formally declined. Consequently, Dooku resolved to neutralize this potential threat and formed an alliance with Tikkes with the aim of seizing power from the Council.

During the Clone Wars, the Quarren Isolation League briefly ousted the Council. Nevertheless, with assistance from the Jedi Council and the efforts of the Mon Calamari Knights, the Calamarian Council was able to regain its authority.

However, they were unable to withstand Emperor Palpatine, and shortly thereafter, they became integrated into the Galactic Empire.

Early in the Galactic Civil War, Mon Calamari achieved liberation. Despite this, the Mon Calamari Council hesitated to fully align with the Alliance to Restore the Republic, partly due to the Quarren's apprehension about partnering with another Human-dominated faction. They also feared Imperial retaliation, especially following the disappearance of Administrator Seegree. The Council suspected Imperial abduction and formed a task force to locate him.

Imperial infiltrators were deployed with the mission to disrupt the planet's supply of starships to the Rebel Alliance. The team successfully orchestrated a series of suspicious incidents within the farium mining operation located in Morjanssik on Mon Calamari. These events caused a division within the Mon Calamari Council along species lines, resulting in political paralysis. While the Mon Calamari members of the Council suspected Imperial involvement, the Quarren members dismissed these claims, viewing them as an attack on the competence of the Quarren miners overseeing the mine's operations.

Following the Battle of Yavin, Admiral Ackbar and several members of the Mon Calamari Council were rescued on Daluuj by the Heroes of Yavin. Subsequently, in 1 ABY, the Mon Calamari Council ultimately decided to integrate the planet fully into the Rebel Alliance.

After the Battle of Endor and the reborn Emperor's attacks on their world, one of the World Devastators, specifically the Nullifier-5, sank into the Algae Sward. The Council deemed salvaging it too costly and opted only to deactivate it. However, some time later, the Nullifier-5 began to leak, threatening to contaminate the Algae Sward, prompting the Council to enlist an independent team to address the issue.

In 137 ABY, Darth Krayt, along with Sith and Imperial stormtroopers, executed the entire Council, including Gial Gahan, for their alliance with Gar Stazi.
