Calamari Flan, characterized by its disc-like shape and white and blue coloration, functioned as a type of currency. Unlike the stiff credit used by the New Republic, Flan was malleable and would deform under pressure, despite retaining its overall form. Circa 9 ABY, following the fall of the Galactic Empire, Din Djarin, a Mandalorian bounty hunter, declined Imperial credits offered by Greef Karga of the Bounty Hunters' Guild for the capture of four bounties. Even though Karga asserted the Imperial credits' continued usability, Djarin prepared to depart. Karga then proposed payment in Calamari Flan, but admitted he only had enough for half the agreed-upon sum. Djarin agreed to this arrangement.
Subsequently, Djarin spent Calamari Flan on the estuary moon of Trask, compensating a Mon Calamari server for intel.
The debut of Calamari Flan occurred in "Chapter 1: The Mandalorian," the initial episode of The Mandalorian, a live-action show on Disney+, broadcast on November 12, 2019. For the 2024 video game Star Wars Outlaws, the currency was initially planned as a collectible within the "Nix Treasure" set, but this idea was ultimately removed from the finished game.
