The Caliginous Automaton of Tomo-Reth was a towering droid. During the Kymoodon Era, this machine resided on a brick throne located on the planet Tomo-Reth. It was known for expelling fire towards anyone who approached. Though annihilated during the Herglic Crush around 14,743 BBY, the historian Vicendi later included it in the celebrated Twenty Wonders of the Galaxy list in 10,000 BBY.

The Caliginous Automaton of Tomo-Reth, a droid, was a prominent attraction on the Inner Rim world of Tomo-Reth during the Kymoodon Era, a time period that commenced roughly around 15,000 BBY. The Automaton met its end in 14,743 BBY during the destructive event known as the Herglic Crush. Nevertheless, it achieved lasting recognition as one of the Twenty Wonders of the Galaxy, a compilation of remarkable, ancient artifacts assembled by the historian Vicendi in 10,000 BBY for his publication, Arturum Galactinum.
Sometime between 1 ABY and 3 ABY, a scaled-down version of the Automaton was also presented at the "Wonders of the Galaxy" exhibit, hosted by the Figg & Associates Art Museum within the Cloud City settlement located on the Outer Rim Territories planet Bespin. Inside the exhibition space, the models of both the Caliginous Automaton and the towering skyscraper known as the Shawken Spire were positioned along the walls, adjacent to inscriptions featuring quotations from two other Wonders of the Galaxy: the Celebratus Archive and the Halls of Knowledge.
The Caliginous Automaton of Tomo-Reth was first mentioned in the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas, authored by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry. Wallace mentioned on his personal blog that he particularly enjoyed devising names for the Twenty Wonders of the Galaxy that were originally created for the book, including the Caliginous Automaton. He also suggested that the Automaton might have been a subconscious homage to a scene from a Futurama episode. The Caliginous Automaton of Tomo-Reth made its initial appearance as a scale model in The Jewel of Yavin, a 2014 adventure supplement for Fantasy Flight Games' Star Wars: Edge of the Empire roleplaying game system.
