CC-7700 frigate

The CC-7700 frigate represented a frigate class utilized by the Imperial Navy. It was a modernized iteration of the earlier Detainer CC-2200. Possessing the ability to project an interdiction field, the CC-7700 served as an Interdictor type of ship, preventing other ships from making the jump to hyperspace and trapping those already traveling at such speeds. A CC-7700 was part of a task force commanded by Moff Wilhuff Tarkin in 14 BBY and was used alongside other Interdictor ships in a failed attempt to ensnare the rebel corvette known as Carrion Spike.

Characteristics

The CC-7700 frigate was categorized as an Interdictor class vessel. Mirroring its predecessor, the Detainer CC-2200, the CC-7700 was equipped with substantial armor, a sloping front, and short, wing-like protrusions on its sides that housed groups of gravity well projectors. These features allowed the ship to generate an interdiction field. Furthermore, the frigate included sublight engines and the capacity to communicate with nearby Imperial vessels through a battle net.

Role

The CC-7700 frigate, as an Interdictor vessel, deployed its gravity well projectors to form an interdiction field. This field could either force enemy ships out of hyperspace or stop them from entering it.

History

A CC-7700 attempted to capture the rebel corvette Carrion Spike in 14 BBY.

The Imperial Navy utilized the CC-7700 frigate in 14 BBY. During this time, a rebel cell managed to steal the Carrion Spike, Moff Wilhuff Tarkin's prized corvette, and employ it in a series of attacks against Imperial installations. Tarkin, aiming to halt this campaign, assembled a task force to seize the vessel. This force comprised the Imperial-class star destroyer Executrix, an Immobilizer 418 cruiser, a Detainer CC-2200, a CC-7700 frigate, and various other smaller ships, frigates, and gunboats. Acting on false coordinates provided by the rebels, the Imperial group journeyed to the Obroa-skai system located in the Inner Rim, where Tarkin intended to intercept the rogue corvette.

Just before the Carrion Spike's projected arrival, Tarkin made contact with the task-force liaison officer stationed aboard the CC-7700 using the battle net. The officer informed Tarkin that the gravity well projectors on the Interdictor ships were increasing power to high gain. He also stated that the field would soon be deactivated after its initiation to prevent civilian ships from being pulled out of hyperspace. However, the commander further explained that such an occurrence might be unavoidable due to the high volume of traffic in the system and the Carrion Spike's speed, which necessitated a higher power setting for the gravity well projectors. As the corvette was expected to appear, the Immobilizer 418 experienced a malfunction, causing the interdiction field to waver and draw several civilian ships out of hyperspace. Subsequently, the Detainer collided with a luxury liner, resulting in disarray and marking the mission as a failure.

Behind the scenes

The CC-7700 frigate made its appearance within the new Star Wars canon in the 2014 novel Tarkin, penned by James Luceno. In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the CC-7700 first appeared in the Star Wars: Rebellion video game, which was released in 1998 by LucasArts.
