Cerakote, a dark silver-gray substance, found application within the architecture of lightsabers. During the period of the High Republic Era, the lightsaber belonging to Te'Ami, a Jedi Knight of the Duros species, was constructed from cerakote and featured a copper crossguard.
In the year 14 BBY, Cal Kestis, a Jedi Padawan, journeyed to the planet Zeffo where he located some cerakote within the Ice Caves. He took this cerakote intending to use it to alter his lightsaber, which had previously belonged to his former master, Jaro Tapal. Jaro Tapal, his Jedi Master, had gifted him the lightsaber not long before his death during the execution of Order 66 in 19 BBY.
Cerakote was initially introduced in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, a video game released in 2019 and created by Respawn Entertainment. Within the game's mechanics, it functions as one of the twenty-four distinct materials that players are able to find and use to personalize the visual design of Cal Kestis' lightsaber.
