Te'Ami

Te'Ami was a Jedi Knight of the Duros species, identified as female, and she lived during the time known as the High Republic Era. During the Great Hyperspace Disaster, she piloted a specialized craft called a Jedi Vector in an attempt to rescue the Hetzal system. Alongside fellow Jedi members Nib Assek and Mikkel Sutmani in their own Vectors, along with Republic volunteers Joss and Pikka Adren aboard a Longbeam cruiser, they sought to eliminate a dangerous anomaly that was rapidly approaching the Fruited Moon orbiting Hetzal Prime. Before they could engage, Assek's Padawan, Burryaga Agaburry, intervened, preventing their attack because the young Wookiee sensed living beings trapped within the anomaly. Following this, Te'Ami used the Force to relay this critical information to Avar Kriss, the Jedi Master in charge of coordinating the entire rescue mission.

Later, Te'Ami met her death in a battle with the Nihil during the 40th Emergence of debris resulting from the initial disaster.

Biography

During her life in the High Republic Era, Te'Ami, a female Duros with sensitivity to the Force, was inducted into the Jedi Order. When she visited the planet Ilum, she acquired a kyber crystal and used it to create her own lightsaber. In time, Te'Ami rose to become a Jedi Knight.

In 232 BBY, Te'Ami was present at a conclave held at the newly constructed space station Starlight Beacon. Following this, she was among the dignitaries given a detailed tour of the station by administrator Shai Tennem. Subsequently, she traveled on the cruiser Third Horizon, which changed course to respond to a distress signal originating from the Hetzal system. Te'Ami became involved in the joint effort by the Jedi and the Galactic Republic to save the Hetzal system from the numerous threatening hyperspace anomalies. Piloting a Jedi Vector, Te'Ami worked alongside fellow Jedi Mikkel Sutmani and Nib Assek, who were also piloting their own Vectors, as well as Joss and Pikka Adren, Republic volunteers who had been contractors at Starlight Beacon and passengers on the Third Horizon, flying a Republic Longbeam cruiser. Assek was accompanied by her Padawan, Burryaga Agaburry.

The group of four ships was given the crucial mission of dealing with an anomaly that was headed straight for the main landmass of the Fruited Moon of Hetzal Prime, which had the potential to destroy the moon and kill its four billion inhabitants. As the leader of the ships, Te'Ami was given control of the Longbeam's weapons systems before connecting with the other Jedi through the Force. While doing so, she sensed the distant presence of Jedi Master Avar Kriss, who was coordinating the entire operation and keeping the hundred Jedi involved connected with each other. Te'Ami activated her Vector's armaments by telekinetically moving her lightsaber to the activation pad, not wanting to take her hands off of the controls. As Te'Ami was preparing to fire, she and Assek sensed a burst of fear and panic which they presumed was coming from Padawan Burryaga. Assuming he was having a hard time controlling his emotions, the older Jedi decided to let the young Wookiee out of the process of targeting their fire so they would be certain to hit the fast-moving anomaly, and Te'Ami gently released Burryaga from the connection.

Te'Ami, Assek and Sutmani refocused their connection, and, agreeing they were running out of time, the Duros was about to fire when Burryaga suddenly interrupted, shouting in Shyriiwook over the Jedi's communications channel. Her concentration and training prevented her from firing despite being startled, and Te'Ami, after realizing that Burryaga had intervened, told him they had to fire. However, Assek translated for her Padawan that they could not fire on the anomaly because the emotions Burryaga had been emitting earlier were not actually his, and he had discerned that the anomaly was starship debris with living people still aboard. Te'Ami's shock at the discovery was sensed by Kriss, aboard the Third Horizon on Hetzal Prime. Kriss, concentrating, realized what her fellow Jedi was passing along, and threw her awareness out over the system to discover a total of ten anomalies with lifeforms inside. She immediately alerted Admiral Pevel Kronara and his crew to the discovery, informing them that their rescue operation had just become more complicated.

Following the Great Disaster, Te'Ami participated in a mission to recover the flight recorder from the Legacy Run. During this mission, Te'Ami and Mikkel Sutmani engaged with Nihil forces who were trying to destroy the flight recorder. Te'Ami was killed during this fight when her Jedi Vector was destroyed by a Nihil missile.

Personality and traits

Te'Ami, a Duros female, had green skin and red eyes. She typically maintained control over her emotions, which allowed her to stop herself from firing her Vector's weapons when Burryaga startled her. She believed that the Force's universal nature meant that everyone possessed inner light, regardless of their appearance. This belief led her to not feel the need to upgrade her lightsaber hilt to make it look more beautiful. Te'Ami was also compassionate, releasing Burryaga from the task of calculating where the Jedi would need to target their weapons when it seemed he was struggling to concentrate, and becoming horrified upon learning there were people inside the anomaly.

Powers and abilities

Te'Ami possessed skill in a number of Force abilities. She could connect mentally with other Jedi without needing a natural amplifier like Avar Kriss, and she could sense the emotions of others. She also had the ability to use telekinesis without needing to move her hands.

Equipment

Te'Ami owned a lightsaber that had a blue blade and a hilt made of cerakote with a copper crosspiece. Although the lightsaber's hilt had become tarnished and scratched over its years of use, Te'Ami felt no need to significantly refurbish it, as the weapon was still in good working order. She had, however, soldered on a piece that had broken off.

During the rescue operation in the Hetzal system, Te'Ami flew a Vector starship.

Behind the scenes

Te'Ami makes an appearance in the novel The High Republic: Light of the Jedi, penned by Charles Soule. Despite being described as having green skin in Light of the Jedi, illustrations in the young readers book, The High Republic: The Great Jedi Rescue by Cavan Scott, depict her with blue skin.
