Constanten was a Jedi Knight of the Tarasin species (a female), who served the Jedi Order in the waning years of the Galactic Republic.
Constanten's journey began on the planet Cularin, within the Force-rich environment known as Hiironi irstat. Her Force-sensitive nature was recognized early, leading her to be entrusted to Mother Dariana, the irstat's spiritual leader, for training in esoteric arts. Named in honor of a Jedi Knight who had saved her life as an infant, Constanten proved to be a dedicated student, appreciating Dariana's teaching methods. At the age of four, an encounter with a visiting Jedi sparked her curiosity. Three years later, the young Tarasin sought admission to one of the Jedi Order's academies on nearby Almas, formally requesting enrollment. Upon approval by the Academy's Council of Masters, Constanten immersed herself in her studies, excelling in all courses. Upon her graduation, Headmaster Lanius Qel-Bertuk offered her a choice: remain on Almas or continue her training at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Concerned that her ties to the Cularin system might hinder her progress, Constanten opted to travel to Coruscant, aspiring to become a Jedi Knight.
On Coruscant, a Jedi Master selected Constanten to be their Padawan. She embarked on numerous missions throughout the galaxy, expanding her knowledge and strengthening her connection to the Force. After two decades, Constanten successfully completed the Trials of Knighthood and was elevated to the rank of Knight within the Jedi Order. Returning to the Almas Academy to study to become a Jedi Guardian, the Tarasin forged a friendship with Valiri, a Skrilling Jedi, and they collaborated on various assignments. Respected among the Jedi at the academy, Constanten was renowned for her exceptional bravery in combat, akin to that of fellow Jedi K'kur. Therefore, it came as a surprise when she declined the Jedi High Council's call to arms at the onset of the Clone Wars in 22 BBY between the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Exercising her Right of Denial, Constanten refused a position within the Grand Army of the Republic, choosing instead to remain on Almas and continue her regular duties. Assigned to safeguard the fortress of the long-deceased Sith Lord Darth Rivan, Constanten, along with five other Knights, guarded the structure's entrances while a large research team explored its depths. Stationed at the fortress's southern entrance alongside Knights K'kur and Valiri, they prepared to defend against any incursions from the dark side sect known as the Believers.
As the group stood guard outside the fortress, a sandstorm enveloped the area, casting the structure into shadows. During this storm, Phylus Mon, a dark side adept, led a band of raiders, including a massive Force-sensitive Wampa, in an assault on the ancient Sith edifice. While most of the Jedi guards perished, Constanten and Valiri sustained injuries and were captured by the dark siders. Deep within the fortress, Adept Mon and his followers initiated a Sith ritual, intending to enslave the two prisoners and several volunteers, transforming them into Sith battlelords. However, the ritual malfunctioned, extracting the participants' Force-essence and binding them to a crystal, which Mon seized and fled with. Sometime after the ritual's conclusion, Jedi search parties discovered the bodies of the sacrificed individuals and transported them back to the academy for examination. There, Jedi librarian Oden Malksch inadvertently possessed the body of Karae Nalvas, uncovering the location of Mon's secret headquarters during the experience. Reporting this to headmaster Lanius Qel-Bertuk, the Jedi dispatched a team to locate and destroy the crystal, hoping to restore the Force-essences to their respective bodies.
Constanten possessed a fierce spirit and was known for her courage and agility, making her a formidable warrior and skilled lightsaber duelist. Despite being shorter and more slender than most Tarasins, she possessed surprising strength, enabling her to hold her own in combat. Her eyes, the color of a gargrell flower, were fiery and knowing, and her translucent skin had a light green, almost gray, hue.
In A Mon Alone, one of the player characters has the ability to enter the body of this non-player character, utilizing Constanten's statistics. This lasts until her essence is freed, at which point it returns to her body and the PC's essence returns to their unconscious body, or until Constanten's body is killed in action. The text indicates that some of the final scenes are extremely dangerous and could easily result in the death of the player characters, potentially frustrating players.
Unlike the other "available empty bodies", Constanten's entry lacks her thoughts on the other "empty bodies". However, we know that Valiri and she were friends because Valiri's entry specifies so.
Despite Constanten's role-playing game stats identifying her as a "Male Tarasin Jedi Guardian", all other references to the character consistently describe her as female (e.g., Constanten is your friend, such as you have friends. You saw her fall in the battle, but knew she was alive).
