CEC shipyards

The CEC shipyards, more popularly known as the Corellian shipyards, represented extensive ship-building facilities stationed in orbit around the world of Corellia. Operated by the esteemed Corellian Engineering Corporation, these shipyards held a place among the most vital and celebrated starship construction centers throughout the galaxy. History was made in the Corellian yards, as they served as the origin point for numerous iconic and enduring vessels in galactic chronicles.

Description

Positioned in orbit around the planet Corellia, the Corellian shipyards were colossal factories dedicated to constructing starships. These facilities comprised a significant portion of the vast industrial complex known as the Orbital Industrial Zone, which stretched across a substantial portion of Corellia's orbital space. The Corellian Engineering Corporation managed the Corellian yards, where they produced both entire starships and individual components. These shipyards possessed the capability to manufacture a diverse range of vessels, encompassing both civilian and military applications, from compact scout craft to formidable military dreadnaughts. The Corellian yards were considered to be on par with the shipyards over Fondor and Kuat.

The Corellian Port Authority maintained oversight of the entire Orbital Industrial Zone, which included the shipyards. Given their strategic importance, the Corellian Security Force and the Corellian Defense Force were responsible for patrolling the CEC shipyards. Their role was to protect the facilities from acts of sabotage, industrial espionage, and other forms of vandalism.

History

Originally, Corellian shipyards existed both in orbit and on the surface of Corellia itself. Among the surface-based facilities were the Blastfield Shipyards and the Meridian Complex. However, several centuries prior to the Battle of Yavin, the Corellian government made the decision to relocate all of Corellia's medium and heavy industries into orbit. This move was intended to prevent excessive urban expansion and avert an impending ecological crisis. As a result, Corellia was able to maintain its largely rural and unpolluted environment.

During both the Great Galactic War and the subsequent Cold War, the Corellian shipyards served as the primary source of vessels for the Republic Navy.

During the Clone Wars, a conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, Corellia maintained a position of neutrality. Nevertheless, after the Confederacy conquered the neighboring world of Duro, the Corellians began preparing for a potential attack. CorSec forces were placed on high alert across the sector, with a particular focus on safeguarding the CEC shipyards.

Following the Declaration of a New Order, the Galactic Empire assumed control of the Corellian shipyards, although they officially remained under Corellian jurisdiction. To avoid direct Imperial control, the Corellian Diktat was compelled to agree to manage CEC's starship production in accordance with Imperial directives. Subsequently, the Corellian Engineering Corporation produced warships for the Imperial sector fleet. Despite the agreement between the Empire and the Diktat, Imperial starship squadrons made frequent visits to the shipyards to protect Imperial interests, leading to protests from Corellian civilians.

Around the time of the Battle of Endor, the Corellian system was defended by 25 Imperial Star Destroyers under the command of Admiral Jaeffis. In the six months following the death of Emperor Palpatine, the Super Star Destroyer Aggressor and its escort of five Star Destroyers, led by Admiral Roek, were redeployed from the Inner Rim to protect the Corellian shipyards from the New Republic.

During the Yuuzhan Vong War, the Corellian shipyards sustained damage and were largely rendered inoperable.

The Corellian shipyards became targeted by Galactic Alliance forces during the Second Galactic Civil War.
