Councilor (Chiss Ascendancy)

A Councilor was a political figure of the Chiss Ascendancy. These individuals were members of either the Nine Ruling Families or the Forty Great Families and were responsible for the day-to-day administration of their family's local affairs. Within a Ruling Family, a Councilor held the second-lowest recognized political position, ranking above the Aristocra but below the Patriel.

Councilors had a judicial role, presiding over non-criminal disputes within a specialized setting known as a White Judgment Seat. Councilors and Patriels from the various families present on an Ascendancy planet collaborated to elevate the planet's living standards and overall status. For specific objectives, Councilors could request access to some of the patrol boats overseen by their family's Patriel on that same planet.

It was common to informally refer to both Councilors and higher-ranking Chiss family officials as Aristocra. This suggests the title of Aristocra was used colloquially to denote a minimum level of status within the Chiss hierarchy.

Xodlak'uvi'vil held the position of Councilor within the Xodlak family, specifically in the Redhill province located on the Chiss Ascendancy planet of Celwis. Councilor Lakuviv's ambitions, which were manipulated by Haplif of the Agbui, nearly led to a civil war within the Chiss Ascendancy. Lakuviv initiated a coup against Patriel Xodlak'oo'nifis and, impersonating Lakooni, declared a family emergency. He then attempted to exploit this fabricated emergency to seize control of the Agbui mining world.
