Celwis, a planet belonging to the Chiss Ascendancy, functioned as a stronghold for the Xodlak family. Despite its economic significance, Celwis held little political importance. During plotting to instigate a civil war among the Chiss, Haplif of the Agbui took up residence on Celwis for a period. His goal was to manipulate Xodlak'uvi'vil, a Councilor from the Xodlak family.
Haplif used what appeared to be an abundance of nyix jewelry to tempt Councilor Lakuviv. The Agbui was successful in persuading Councilor Lakuviv to orchestrate a coup against Lakooni, Celwis' Patriel. The renegade Councilor then impersonated Lakooni to announce a family emergency. Consequently, Lakuviv summoned all eligible Xodlak-family officers and warriors from the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet to gather on Celwis, thereby creating Task Force Xodlak from what remained of the historic Xodlak fleet.
Xodlak'phr'ooa, a local rancher known as "Lakphro," grew suspicious of Haplif's actions, recognizing the nyix jewelry given to officials as bribes. He confronted Haplif as the Agbui was preparing to depart Celwis with his associates. Haplif's response was an attempt to kill Lakphro, but Lakphro defended himself and killed Haplif. Despite Haplif's death, his scheme nearly succeeded with the Hoxim incident. This incident saw forces from Xodlak, Pommrio, and Erighal converge to claim the Agbui mining world of Hoxim for their respective families. However, thanks to the efforts of Lakphro, Thrawn, and Lakinda, a civil war was averted.
Celwis's largest moon featured a cliff face that concealed a derelict Chiss frigate dating back to the era when the Xodlak family was one of the Ruling Family.
