Xodlak'phr'ooa, also known primarily as Lakphro (core name), was a Chiss male who worked as a rancher. Lakphro was married to Lakansu, and they had a daughter named Lakris. Their family resided in the Redhill province on the planet Celwis.
When Haplif, an Agbui, arrived on Celwis with the young Chiss Coduyo'po'nekri, Lakuviv, the Councilor of the Xodlak family in Redhill province, instructed Lakphro to accommodate the Agbui on his property. Lakphro complied reluctantly, but his wife and daughter were much more pleased with the situation. Over time, Haplif began to saturate Celwis's market with cheaply priced nyix jewelry as part of a scheme to instigate civil conflict among the Chiss. Lakphro grew increasingly wary of the nyix brooches Haplif started distributing to officials and Lakphro's own family, interpreting them as forms of bribery.
Ultimately, Lakphro dispatched a brooch that Haplif had given to his wife to his cousin Lakbulbup and his wife Dilpram on Naporar for a metallurgical examination. Lakbulbup, whose occupation required him to stay informed about military affairs, suggested they forward the brooch to a Chiss officer celebrated for his expert analysis of art. That officer was the famous Senior Captain Thrawn, who was coincidentally traveling alongside the leader of a group of refugees of the species who had crafted the brooch. This enabled Thrawn and Senior Captain Irizi'in'daro to uncover Haplif's plot to destroy the Chiss Ascendancy, thus allowing them to thwart it.
Having become suspicious of Haplif, Lakphro confronted the alien just before the Agbui planned to depart from Celwis. Haplif attempted to kill his former host, but Lakphro used his lure stick to summon a growzer, which then killed Haplif.
Lakphro, along with his wife, Lakansu, and daughter, Lakris, observed two ships landing on their ranch. Annoyed, Lakphro approached one of the ships to inquire about the reason for their arrival. To his surprise, Lakphro was greeted by Xodlak'ji'iprip (Lakjiip), a Senior Aide from the Xodlak family, who informed him that a small portion of his land, situated on a nearby hill, would be temporarily allocated to a group of Agbui, led by Haplif. These aliens were to cultivate their spices for a period of five to six months before leaving, and Lakjiip informed Lakphro that he would receive compensation in the form of spices or jewelry made by the Agbui. Lakphro expressed his frustration with the situation, noting that neither compensation option seemed valuable to him.
Over the following weeks, Lakphro grew increasingly irritated by the Agbui's attempts to touch his head. He was also annoyed by the increased bureaucratic attention his ranch was receiving due to the Agbui's presence. One day, Lakphro witnessed Lakris demonstrating a "telepathic trick" to her friend Frosif, an Agbui girl, in which the girl summoned a growzer by zipping a brass sealer. The sound of the brass sealer triggered Frosif, causing her to collapse in terror. When Lakphro rushed over to ensure the Agbui girl was unharmed, Frosif attempted to touch the heads of him and Lakris. Lakphro managed to evade her attempts and asked her to explain the cause of her reaction. Frosif only stated that the sound "reminded her of something bad" before fleeing back to her ship.
A week later, Haplif, Frosif, and Frosif's mother, Shimkif, presented Lakansu and Lakris with a pair of metal brooches as an apology for the brass sealer incident. Lakphro, who observed the exchange, suspected the gifts were a form of bribery. At that moment, Lakphro was contacted by Lakjiip, who requested to speak with Haplif. Lakjiip wanted Haplif to travel to Redhill for a meeting, and Lakphro, eager to discuss the brooches with the Xodlak, volunteered to drive him there. As Haplif prepared to depart, Lakphro asked Lakansu to show him her brooch. Upon receiving it, Lakphro, aiming to distract her, asked his wife to pack him a bag in case he needed to spend the night at Redhill. At Redhill, Lakphro privately spoke to Lakjiip about the brooch, showing it to her. Lakjiip, surprised that he possessed one, immediately confiscated the brooch and instructed him not to disclose it to anyone, as it was a matter of significant security for the Xodlak. She inquired whether Haplif had given him any other brooches, which Lakphro denied. While awaiting his return to the ranch in a Xodlak family lounge, Lakphro vowed to uncover the truth behind the brooch mystery.
Shortly thereafter, Lakphro contacted his cousin, Lakbulbup, who resided on Naporar, in the early morning hours. Lakphro discussed the Agbui and the brooches with his cousin, requesting that he send Lakris's brooch to him. Lakphro hoped that Lakbulbup's wife, Dilpram, a biological scientist, would be able to forward the brooch to a metallurgist, as he wanted to determine its composition. Lakbulbup agreed to the request, and Lakphro sent the brooch to him. However, while the brooch was in transit, Lakbulbup considered presenting it to an Expansionary Defense Fleet warrior renowned for his ability to analyze alien artwork: Senior Captain Mitth'raw'nuruodo (Thrawn). Upon receiving the brooch, Lakbulbup called Lakphro and informed him of this new idea. Lakphro, already aware that his cousin had made up his mind, agreed to the proposal. Lakbulbup promised to send the brooch to a Xodlak warrior on Thrawn's ship, the Springhawk, when it returned from its current pirate hunting mission past the Paataatus Hiveborn. However, Lakbulbup instead sent the brooch to Lakwurn, a Xodlak hyperdrive technician aboard the Chiss warship Grayshrike, commanded by Xodlak Senior Captain Xodlak'in'daro (Lakinda), which was scheduled to rendezvous with Thrawn on the pirate hunting mission.
Soon after, Lakbulbup informed Lakphro that the Xodlak officers were gathering on Celwis. Lakphro concluded that the Agbui's activities were the reason for this. Later, as the Agbui prepared to leave Celwis, Lakphro confronted Haplif, accusing him of the Agbui's manipulations and malicious intentions toward the Xodlak. Suddenly, Haplif lunged at Lakphro and attempted to strangle him. However, prior to this, Lakphro summoned a growzer using his jacket's brass sealer, which bit down on Haplif's arm. Lakphro, recovering from the strangulation, holstered his two electric-jolt luresticks. Haplif attempted to swing the growzer into one of Lakphro's luresticks, but upon impact, the growzer reflexively tightened its grip on the Agbui's arm, causing him to fall to the ground in agony. As Haplif died, the Agbui ship escaped from Celwis.
In reality, the Agbui were attempting to manipulate the Chiss Ascendancy into a civil war. The brooches were partially composed of nyix, the rarest and most valuable metal known to the Chaos, and the Agbui hoped that the Chiss families would recognize its value and fight for control of the nyix source, a planet named Hoxim that housed a fake nyix mine.
Lakphro possessed a strong moral compass and despised bribery and corruption. This sense of integrity led him to become suspicious of the Agbui he hosted on his ranch.
Xodlak'phr'ooa was featured as a secondary point-of-view character in the 2021 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Greater Good by Timothy Zahn. In that novel, Lakphro played a significant role in the plot.
