Creel held the rank of commander within the Rebel Alliance, specifically leading Riot Squadron during the Imperial Era; he was a male. Prior to the skirmish in orbit around the planet Jiruus, an event that took place a few weeks subsequent to the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, Creel obtained what he believed to be decrypted commands from his computer, outlining a reassignment to an Alliance installation situated on the world Kalarba.
The members of Riot Squadron dedicated six hours to searching for the purported base. Initially, they reasoned it was simply well-concealed, but they subsequently grew concerned that the Alliance forces on Kalarba had been displaced. Creel then attempted to decode the orders using alternative encryption methods, quickly discovering that he had inadvertently acquired the data from a flight simulator, mistaking it for authentic directives. Sata Neek, a pilot belonging to Riot Squadron, later shared the story of Creel's error while on the EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate Hellion's Dare, some weeks following the Battle of Endor.
The character of Creel was initially referenced within Alexander Freed's 2019 publication, Alphabet Squadron.
