These pebble-sized spheres, known as Crunchies, were a kind of cereal suitable for human consumption. The blue and purple colored spherical treats were often served in bowls filled with blue milk. Following his dismissal from Pre-Mor Enforcement, the former Deputy Inspector of Preox-Morlana, Syril Karn, received a serving of crunchies from his mother in 5 BBY. Initially, Karn resisted eating them, instead choosing to carefully examine a single crunchie he had removed from the milk. Ultimately, however, Karn did consume the crunchies.
The initial appearance of Crunchies occurred in "The Axe Forgets," which is the fifth episode of the Disney+ television program titled Andor. Despite not being named in any spoken lines, the cereal is named in both the episode's script and the descriptive audio.
Barry Gingell, a graphic designer, was responsible for the cereal box's design. He first developed multiple cardboard prototypes to perfect the flap, then added a stripe and a window. Holly Martin, a set decoration advanced prop modeler, then used styrene to create the box. The blue and purple pieces from the real-world cereal Trix Trolls World Tour with Marshmallows were used for the cereal pieces. Martyn Doust, the prop master, considered the cereal a very ordinary, commonplace item. He included a bowl and spoon, which he regarded as essential components of cereal consumption. Before the cameras rolled, the props department inquired with Kyle Soller, the actor playing Syril Karn, about any dietary restrictions, to which he responded that he had none. Subsequently, they presented him with the cereal, which he likened to "Star Wars Cocoa Puffs." Soller commented that the cereal was surprisingly palatable and tasted like "dreams and unicorns."
