Dagoyan Order

The Dagoyan Masters, also known as the Dagoyan Order, were a group of individuals connected to the Force who prioritized understanding and balance within the universe. They also participated in the planetary governance of Bardotta, the homeworld of the Bardottan species located in the [Colonies](/article/colonies] region of the galaxy, through their involvement with the Bahk-tov Council.

Description

The Dagoyan Order was a tradition based upon the ideals of self-denial and meditation, with the goal of forging a deep, personal bond with the Force. The Dagoyans maintained a passive connection to the Force, steering clear of both its light and dark sides. They refrained from using it to manipulate the physical realm, thereby avoiding any moral judgment of the Force itself. Constant training and meditation were central to the Order's practices. On Bardotta, the Order instructed force sensitives in utilizing the Force for educational purposes and in the practice of nonviolence.

The Dagoyan tradition was widely embraced by ordinary people seeking their own personal connection to the Force. Education at a Dagoyan school was a universal experience for Bardottans, and meditation was integrated into the daily routines of all citizens. The average Bardottan was encouraged to embody the Order's principles in their roles as artisans and sculptors serving the planet, although participation remained entirely voluntary and not an obligation.

The Order's monastic branch consisted of mystics who adhered to strict asceticism, subsisting on alms and donations within the planet's grand monasteries, such as the Halsoun monastery. Those mystics who dedicated their lives to meditation earned the title of Master. The Dagoyan Masters, recognized as the Order's most powerful and wise members, were invited to offer counsel to the planet's governing bodies. With only a few dozen Masters emerging in each generation, those who did not assume governmental duties were tasked with guiding the next generation's education at various mystic communities throughout the world.

The Dagoyan tradition and the culture of Bardotta were inextricably linked, making the Order both a religious and a governmental institution on the planet. The Bahk-tov Council, Bardotta's governing body, included both Dagoyan Masters and lay individuals who followed the Dagoyan tradition. The Council's leader, holding the title of king or queen, served as the official head of state and was chosen by the unanimous consent of the Council. The Monarch of Bardotta represented the voice of the Council and the Order, but policy decisions required the unanimous approval of the Council.

History

The Dagoyan Order emerged during a period of perpetual warfare on Bardotta, evolving from the militant Frangawl tradition that had previously governed the planet through force and the dark side of the Force. After seizing control of the government through a series of brief conflicts, the Dagoyan Order outlawed the Frangawl tradition and firmly established itself within Bardottan society. They established the Bahk-tov Council, a governing body composed of Dagoyan Masters and, at times, lay individuals, which then elected a Monarch to serve as Bardotta's Head of State.

Relations between the Dagoyan Order and the Jedi Order were strained, stemming from an early historical incident. When the Jedi attempted to recruit Bardottan children into their ranks, the Bahk-tov Council viewed this as a violation of Bardotta's sovereignty and demanded the children's return, threatening war if their demand was not met. Following the Jedi's compliance, the Dagoyan Order largely severed ties with the Jedi for the subsequent millennia. In 382 BBY, a group of Dagoyan masters were present as patrons at the Enlightenment tapbar in Jedha City on the Mid Rim moon Jedha, seated at a table within one of the bar's alcoves. Keth Cerepath noticed this group upon his arrival later that evening.

During the Clone Wars, a resurgence of the Frangawl Cult led to the abduction of several Dagoyan Masters, causing a spiritual crisis among the Bardottans. Queen [Julia](/article/julia] sought assistance from Junior Representative Jar Jar Binks, who was accompanied by Jedi Master Mace Windu. Despite the existing tensions between the two Orders, Windu successfully addressed the attacks and rescued the Queen from being sacrificed by the cult, although several Dagoyan Council members perished.
