Keth Cerepath

During the High Republic Era, a human male named Keth Cerepath resided in Jedha City. He served as an adjunct at the Temple of the Kyber, and he frequently spent his evenings enjoying drinks at the tapbar called Enlightenment.

Biography

Acolyte within the Church of the Force

Keth Cerepath was employed by the Church of the Force, performing various tasks at the Temple of the Kyber located in Jedha City. Despite his employment, he did not adhere to the doctrines of the church. Following his work, he often frequented Enlightenment, where he engaged in conversations with his friends Moona and Piralli, and listened attentively to the tales shared by other patrons.

Around 382 BBY, a hyperspace prospector, fresh from an adventure, made a stop at Enlightenment en route to Vexos. She regaled Keth and his companions with the story of her capture by pirates, alongside a Jedi Master known as Lee Harro, and how Master Harro liberated them both and shielded them from strostodons on Vexos.

Subsequently, Keth witnessed a speeder nearly collide with a group of civilians. The Jedi Maeve Cuilinn intervened and brought the speeder to a halt. One of the survivors, a member of the Path of the Open Hand named Whool, denounced this usage of the Force. When Keth inquired if he would have preferred to die, Whool recounted the incident where he, his brother Grael and fellow miners were nearly crushed in a mine collapse, only to be saved by Grael's use of the Force. Whool claimed that the Force then balanced itself by causing another mine on the same planet to collapse. Keth dismissed this as mere coincidence, skeptical that the Force operated in such a manner. Moments later, Piralli entered Enlightenment, informing Keth that the same speeder that almost killed Whool had crashed into another group, resulting in four fatalities, which gave Keth a new way to look at the situation.

The Jedha Summit

During the summit on Jedha, Keth was chosen to be the primary communicator between the Church and Morton San Tekka, the mediator chosen by the Republic for the summit. While he wasn't thrilled with the assignment, he tried his best to fulfill his responsibilities. On his first day, he was late to the Second Spire because he had overslept. Shortly before the summit's commencement, he fetched a glass of water for Morton, using the opportunity to secretly usher Peethree in through a window, despite the prohibition of droids at the summit. On his return, a bomb exploded, resulting in Morton's death and a temporary halt to the peace talks. Peethree disappeared amidst the chaos.

The Jedha Conflict

After the Jedi determined that a droid was responsible for the bombing of the Second Spire, Keth, along with the still-missing P3-7A, became the prime suspects. Jedi Master Silandra Sho launched an investigation into the bombing, interviewing numerous witnesses, including Keth. Silandra believed in Keth's innocence and enlisted his help, leveraging his knowledge of the Holy City. All the witnesses they interviewed saw something different with the exception that everyone saw an individual talking to a droid shortly before the bombing. The E'roni saw an Eiram soldier talking to the droid, the Eirami saw an E'ronoh soldier, and other witnesses saw a Lew'elan talking to the droid. A visit to Enlightenment revealed to Silandra and Keth that the force cult known as the Brotherhood of the Ninth Door possessed the ability to manipulate perception, causing individuals to see what they desired. Armed with this knowledge, they confronted the Brotherhood and discovered their collaboration with Tilson Graf, the new mediator, to sabotage the peace conference. During a confrontation with Mytion, a member of the Brotherhood of the Ninth Door, Keth gave his life to protect Silandra.

Remembrance

Following his death, Silandra brought Keth's body back to the Temple of the Kyber, where prefect Resamond Saous pledged that Keth would be remembered for his role in the conflict. Subsequently, Silandra visited Enlightenment to share Keth's story with the patrons, mirroring Keth's own enjoyment of the stories told in the tapbar.

Personality and Characteristics

Keth possessed a kind and receptive nature. He loved spending time at the tapbar called Enlightenment, where he met with friends and listened to the stories shared by various individuals, secretly harboring dreams of embarking on his own adventures. He would do his best to help other people when they were in need. He offered Saretha von Beel a place to stay when she arrived on Jedha, and he helped the Path of the Open Hand member Whool after an out of control speeder almost killed him. He assisted Silandra Sho in investigating the bombing of the Second Spire and ultimately sacrificed himself to save her. As he died, he was happy to have finally lived out an adventure.

Possessions

Keth Cerepath was usually seen wearing an adjunct's tunic. He was the owner of a junk droid named P3-7A, which was constructed from scrap and a church droid's vocoder by Bonbraks. Keth also briefly wielded a lightsaber to rescue Silandra Sho.

Behind the Curtain

Keth Cerepath made his debut in the first installment of the Tales of Enlightenment short story titled "New Prospects," penned by George Mann and published in Star Wars Insider 213 as part of Phase II of Star Wars: The High Republic. In the audiodrama The High Republic: The Battle of Jedha, also written by George Mann, he was voiced by Brandon McInnis.
