The Dancing Dewback, a cantina catering predominantly to non-Human patrons, functioned during the era of the Galactic Civil War. The protocol droid known as GT-9R is documented to have frequented this establishment on two separate occasions: once in the company of his master, a bounty hunter going by the name of Tirog, and subsequently alongside the outlaw Dirk Harkness, a pilot called Rhen, a young individual named Cev Rees, and a bounty hunter identified as Thannik.
The main room of the Dancing Dewback, characterized by its subdued lighting, possessed an approximate square shape, encompassing a floor area of roughly twenty square meters. The interior featured fifteen booths, complemented by nine free-standing tables, in addition to seating available at a sizable U-shaped bar that stretched from one wall towards the center of the space. The primary entrance was situated directly opposite the bar.
The Dancing Dewback mainly attracted a clientele that was not Human. Its patrons included smugglers, gamblers, and spacers. For seasoned individuals accustomed to a life of adventure, the potential for violent incidents was readily apparent.
A serving of lum at the bar was priced at two credits. Another drink available featured a red glow, accompanied by what appeared to be a miniature electrical storm suspended above it.
GT-9R, the protocol droid, and his master Tirog, a Human bounty hunter, paid a visit to the cantina to rendezvous with a Devaronian contact. Upon their arrival, the Devaronian was observed consuming a glowing red beverage, complete with a seemingly miniature electrical storm hovering above. Among the numerous other patrons present at the time were a contingent of Human smugglers or traders accompanied by a Wookiee companion, three Duros engaged in a dispute over a game of sabacc, and a heavily intoxicated Gamorrean uttering curses in Gamorrese while flailing his arms.
On another occasion, GT-9R visited the Dancing Dewback in the company of Thannik, another bounty hunter, the outlaw Dirk Harkness, a pilot by the name of Rhen, and a child named Cev Rees. During this particular visit, the cantina was less crowded, with approximately fifteen customers in attendance. The purpose of this visit was also to meet with a Devaronian, who was once again observed with a glowing red drink. A group of Human smugglers, along with their Wookiee companion, a trio of Duros gamblers, and an inebriated Gamorrean were also present within the Dancing Dewback at this time.
During this visit, Cev Rees surreptitiously pilfered the wallet of Fenn, one of the spacers present at the bar. Upon discovering the loss of his wallet, Fenn observed Rhen holding it as Rees disappeared into the crowd. Rhen asserted that he had merely found it on the floor and offered the burly spacer a drink to avert any potential conflict.
The Dancing Dewback is featured as a setting in gameplay examples found within the roleplaying game rulebooks Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game, Second Edition and Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game, Second Edition, Revised and Expanded. The gameplay example describing the Dancing Dewback in the revised rulebook is an expanded version of the one in the previous book. In the revised version, Tirog is replaced by Thannik and Dirk Harkness, Rhen, and Cev Rees are added.
